Office of Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion

NEW TITLE VI TRAINING FOR ALL EMPLOYEES

Dear Colleagues,

NYS Office of Employee Relations and SUNY System Administration require the employees of all 64 SUNY campuses to complete Title VI training for the 24-25 academic year. Title VI is a federal law that prevents discrimination based on race, color, or national origin, shared ancestry and ethnic characteristics in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance. Title VI is part of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and applies to all in P-K as well as Higher Education. Enforcement of Title VI is under the Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights (OCR).

Many may have participated in Title VI training in the Spring of 2024. This fall’s training module contains different content and additional education on discrimination under Title VI. All employees must complete this new training by September 30, 2024. The University will be required to report campus completion rates to SUNY System Administration.

There are resources available to members of our community who experience such incidents on or off campus. SUNY New Paltz has a robust Bias Response Reporting process in place, and we encourage students, faculty and staff to familiarize themselves with this process and take advantage of this and other related campus resources.

We are committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment at New Paltz and reject antisemitism, Islamophobia and other forms of bias and hatred. As an institution of higher education, SUNY New Paltz teaches students to engage in rigorous yet respectful discourse on the important issues of the day, in hopes that they may develop skills for civic life. We thank all in our community who take time to review the policies and resources and participate in the ongoing education that supports this effort.
