The Flight of the Fireflies Lantern Parade in Dudley Park
Let's light up the winding paths to Dudley Park together! This parade is open to the Athens community families, individuals, neighborhood groups, schools, and organizations are all encouraged to participate. Bring your lanterns, flashlights, and your imagination, and then join in the parade.
Along the way and at the center of Dudley Park, participants with enjoy live music, fantastical performers and large-scale illuminated puppets. On the night of the Flight of the Fireflies Lantern Parade, each access point to Dudley Park will be color-coded and staffed with volunteers to help you find your way.
Together we can create a fun, magical experience that celebrates the recent park renovations. DIY lanterns are encouraged. However, only portable light sources powered by battery, solar or other flameless lights are welcomed

Summer Camp Online Registration Continues

Parents may still apply for a scholarship to use at the time of camp registration. Please note it takes at least five business days to process a scholarship. Complete information is available at www.accgov.com/scholarship

Firefly Discovery Ride
If you have been hearing about the Firefly Trail and how much fun it is to ride a bike on, it’s time to discover what it is all about. Pump up the tires on those family bikes and join Trails and Open Space staff on this fun ride.
Learn about the history of the trail and future plans. See Athens from a new direction, and discover what a wonderful paved trail system that exists in the Classic City.

Learn to Swim This Summer!
The Leisure Services Department offers swim lessons for children three years and older at the Heard Park, Lay Park, Memorial Park, and Rocksprings Park pools. Each session fee is $33 for Athens-Clarke County residents and $50 for non-county residents.
The Department’s Kinderswim program is a free initiative started with the goal of helping ACC children learn how to swim. The program is offered to Athens-Clarke County 5-year-old children at no cost. The lessons are broken into three, 45-minute classes a week for three weeks, for a total of nine lessons, and are available at all of the Department pools, except Bishop Park pool which is closed for teh summer.

Bears' Birthday Party
We need a party! Plan to attend the Bears' Birthday Party on Saturday, April 29 at Bear Hollow Zoo at Memorial Park.
This special celebration takes place form 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and admission is free of charge.
Come join us to celebrate DJ, Athena birthdays. Watch the bears eat cake, open presents while guests meet ambassador animals and enjoy a take-home craft!

Step Back in Time!
Sandy Creek Nature Center will host the Log House Open House on Saturday, April 29 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Join us as we open the doors to the Log House and explore life in earlier times.
This program is for ages 3 and older. Children must be accompanied by adult. The fee is $3 per person. Registration is not required.

Good Grades = Free Pool Visits
In order to be eligible, any student, Kindergarten through 12th grade, who resides in Athens-Clarke County must take a copy of the student’s final report card or equivalent to a Leisure Services pool or splash pad during the aquatics season. Locations include Heard Park, Lay Park, Memorial Park, or Rocksprings Park pool or the Walker Park splash pad.
A report card with all A's or all E's guarantees a free summer pool pass. A report card with all A's and B's, or all E's and M's, is good for 10 free swims.

Who Wants a Summer Job?
Leisure Services is now hiring more than 100 summer positions. Applications are currently being accepted for camp counselors, counselors in training, Grand Slam, lifeguards, and pool clerks.
