While Gwinnett Place CID will not hold a board meeting in September, the next scheduled meeting will take place at 7:30 a.m. on October 9, 2024, at the Sonesta Gwinnett Place located at 1775 Pleasant Hill Road, Duluth, GA. We encourage the pubic to attend.

Last month, several Gwinnett County government officials toured the Gwinnett Place area to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the County’s central business district. With an annual economic impact of $15.9 billion, Gwinnett Place is a key driver of the County’s overall economic health. Discussions during the tour focused on critical issues such as jobs, housing, the mall site redevelopment, homelessness and security. As part of the visit, the group met with CID member Chris Bruno, owner and General Manager of the Chick-fil-A Dwarf House at 1570 Pleasant Hill Road, to learn more about the successes and challenges his business is facing. 

Save the date for the District 1 Candidate Forum co-hosted by Gateway85, Gwinnett Place and Sugarloaf CIDs on October 2, 2024, at Sonesta Gwinnett Place, 1775 Pleasant Hill Road, Duluth, GA.

Incumbent County Commissioner Kirkland Carden and candidate Tim Le will discuss their priorities and issues as they run for the District 1 Commission seat in Gwinnett. Curt Yeomans, reporter with Gwinnett Daily Post, will moderate the event.

Event doors will open at 6 p.m. and the forum will begin at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments and drinks will be provided.

The Board Member Spotlight for September is on June Lee, a graduate of the University of Georgia Law School and a prominent partner at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in Atlanta.

As the founding president of the Korean Bar Association of Georgia and a regional governor for the International Association of Korean Lawyers, June actively engages with various legal organizations, including the American Bar Association and the Council of Korean Americans. Specializing in corporate law, foreign investment, immigration and international law, she fosters strong business relationships between U.S. and Korean companies.

Passionate about community development, June is committed to the transformation of Gwinnett Place. She advocates for the interests of Korean-American-owned businesses and aims to make Gwinnett Place a vibrant cultural hub in Atlanta, celebrating diversity in food, activities and music.

The upcoming General Election will include a Transit Referendum on the ballot, which will ask voters to fund county-wide transit projects through a dedicated Transit Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST). If approved by voters, a 1% sales tax will fund up to 75 transit projects in Gwinnett..

GPCID was recognized in the 2023 Partnership Gwinnett Annual Report for the Gwinnett Place Mall redevelopment project and was featured in the Driving Community Impact section of the report.

The 90-acre site is being transformed into a mixed-use development featuring cultural, dining, office, residential and retail spaces, aiming to revitalize the area and enhance community engagement.
