In-Person Orientation Registration and Pre-Arrival Information

Reminder that all new international students need to register for the in-person orientation taking place August 13-19. Students can update information on the orientation registration form, which also includes details on how to reserve a spot for transportation from the airport to campus on August 12.

ISSS strongly encourages you to use the ISSS transportation option for your arrival to campus. By using this option, you will receive your Miami ID card (submit your photo) and be guided through the arrival and move in process by International Peer Orientation Leaders (iPOLs). Learn more about your iPOLs at the end of this newsletter.
Register for airport to campus transportation on August 12
Please make sure to complete the in-person orientation form and transportation registration before August 1.
If you have questions or are concerned about campus life and/or health and safety, please consider attending the pre-arrival webinar on July 16. You will receive an invitation and registration information late next week.

Continuing Online Orientation Canvas Modules

You should complete the Online Orientation's first modules about pre-arrival tasks in the coming weeks. Also be prepared to work your way through the upcoming part 2 modules that will cover need-to-know information for maintaining status as an international student and being part of the Miami community. Expect these forthcoming Online Orientation Modules to be launched in mid July.
Please be sure to keep checking the Online Orientation Canvas Modules and your MiamiOH.edu email address regularly and send any questions to international@MiamiOH.edu.

Academic Advising and Graduate Assistantships

The Graduate School is committed to investing and maintaining excellence in graduate programs and supporting graduate students in their pursuit of new knowledge and ideas.
Graduate students will work with an advisor from their department to provide guidance on fulfilling program requirements. Most international graduate students register for classes when they come to campus. If you would like to register for classes prior to your arrival, please contact your graduate program to determine if this is possible and to discuss which classes to register for.
If you were awarded a graduate assistantship from your department, you must follow the steps outlined in the email from Academic Personnel with your official assistantship offer letter. During international orientation, graduate assistants will be required to go to the Academic Personnel office (located in Roudebush Hall) and complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. Please review the Acceptable Documents list to ensure you bring appropriate work authorization documents with you to Academic Personnel. If you have any questions about your graduate assistantship duties and responsibilities, please contact your graduate department.

Meet Your International Peer Orientation Leaders (iPOLs)

You may want to take a few moments to read about your iPOLs, who will guide you through the orientation process and beyond in small groups with your fellow incoming Miamians.
