The credit/no-credit grading policy has changed for the Spring 2020 term. Students will have the option to select credit/no-credit grading for certain courses (check BannerWeb to see if this option is available for specific courses).
Remember that you have ample time to exercise this option, so please consider it carefully and seek out your Academic Advisor or ISSS advisingas needed.
May 15: Last Day of Spring Semester
OPT & Days of Unemployment
Once yourOPT card arrives, you should review the start and end date listed on it. These are your official dates of OPT work authorization. You are permitted to accrue up to 90 days of unemployment during your authorized OPT period. ISSS recommends that you try your best not to get close to accruing 90 days of unemployment. After you have accrued 90 days of unemployment on OPT, you are no longer maintaining your F-1 legal status and should depart the U.S. as soon as possible.
Sometimes, students have difficulty finding employment or their planned start date with a company is delayed. Here are some tips to help you prevent accrual of unemployment days:
Volunteer and unpaid work, for 12-month OPT, is acceptable as long as you are still working at least 20 hours per week and doing work directly related to your major field of study.
Reach out to a nonprofit organization that relates to your major field of study to see if they have volunteer or internship work you can do.
Talk with professors and staff in your academic department to see if they are aware of any opportunities.
DAB creates an opportunity for students to influence positive change on campus, celebrate student accomplishments, and help the Office of the Dean of Students set priorities and create initiatives. The board is expected to meet bi-weekly on Fridays throughout the 2020-21 academic year.
Please let ISSS know where you are! If your plans change, update the ISSS form and your local (off-campus) address in BannerWeb.
