Elizbar Khvichia, a Fulbright Scholar getting their Masters in Public Service and Administration has been selected for this year's Edmund S. Muskie Professional Fellowship Program. This program is funded by the U.S. Department of State. The prestigious fellowship offers emerging leaders from Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia invaluable real-world experience that complements their graduate studies in the United States.
- Rob Schantz, Master of International Affairs student, was recently awarded a Marcellus fellowship by the John Quincy Adams Society.

Recently, Center for Nonprofits and Philanthropy Director Will Brown was invited to be an editor for the 5th Edition of the Jossey-Bass Handbook of Nonprofit Leadership and Management! Alongside David Renz and Fredrik Andersson, Dr. Brown updated multiple chapters and incorporated several new authors, including Jessica Sowa, Marlene Walk, and Ruth Bernstein. This new edition features insights from over 30 top writers and researchers covering leadership, strategy, social innovation, financial leadership, human resources management, advocacy, social justice, evaluation, and more! In addition, they developed valuable resources and tools that are available online.

Kalena Cortes, the Verlin and Howard Kruse '52 Founders Professor, has been chosen as a Fellow for the EdResearch in Action. She is part of the second cohort at EdResearch in Action. The EdResearch Fellowship is a first-of-its-kind program that aims to help education researchers better communicate their research to a practitioner audience, increasing the reach and impact of their work.

Kalena Cortes, also presented several papers at the Association for Education Finance and Policy Annual Conference on March 14-16, 2024, in Baltimore, Maryland. The papers were titled “Beyond the Text: Understanding Opt-Out, Dosage and Response Disparities in an SMS Intervention,” “Connecting the Dots: Patterns and Mechanisms of Parent-Child Engagement in Texts4Teens,” and “Distance to Opportunity: Higher Education Deserts and College Enrollment Choices.”

Kalena Cortes, will present her research titled “Distance to Opportunity: Higher Education Deserts and College Enrollment Choices” at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) Conference on Financing of Higher Education, funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation (Grant: #G-2022-19354), on April 4-5, 2024, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Cortes and colleagues will present new insights into how geographic access to public postsecondary institutions influences students’ college enrollment decisions across race and socioeconomic status. The conference will be a livestream event on NBER’s YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/nbervideos.

Raymond Robertson, professor of Economics and Government, and Director of the Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics, and Public Policy, and Dr. Kaleb Girma Abreha, assistant research scientist for the Mosbacher Institute, wrote an article for The Conversation titled “Tweaking US trade policy could hold the key to reducing migration from Central America.” The article focused on loosening restrictive provisions in trade agreements to allow for new fabrics that could create more jobs in Central America’s apparel industry, potentially reducing immigration to the United States by up to 67%.

Jay Silveria, executive director of the Bush School DC was mentioned in The Gilmer Mirror article titled, “Moran Minute: Keeping Texans Energized.” He received a shout out by Congressman Nathaniel Moran about the outstanding work being done by Texas A&M University in Texas and D.C..

Frank B. Ashley III, interim dean at the Bush School gave a talk at Seton Hall University about academic freedom, upholding the fundamental principles of cultivating school cultures, and promoting respect at this year’s Schools of International Affairs Convention.
