It’s amazing how Sewanee goes from snow and ice to fields of daffodils in a little over a month! I hope your student is enjoying the warmer weather and looking forward to fun spring break adventures.
If your student plans to take the Groome Shuttle to the Nashville Airport and needs a ride from campus to the shuttle’s pickup and drop-off location (Smoke House Lodge in Monteagle), don’t forget—the deadline for requesting a ride is tomorrow, March 4, at 8 a.m. The sign-up form is here.

The arrival of spring break means Commencement is around the corner! We’re excited to celebrate the Class of 2026 on May 9–10 and will be in regular communication with parents of seniors in the weeks ahead. Visit our Commencement Central website to watch a recording of our Commencement 101 info session, order graduation announcements, see a preliminary schedule for the weekend, and more.
We’re thrilled that a few more seniors have stepped up to provide a capstone gift! Participation in senior giving now stands at 10%, which is a bit closer to our goal of 50% of the Class of 2026. Please encourage your senior to make a gift of any size here. (Parent gifts, while very much appreciated, do not count toward our class participation goal!)
Speaking of Sewanee philanthropy, we’re still gearing up for Tiger Tuesday on April 14. For the 10th anniversary of Sewanee’s special day of giving, we’re planning a friendly competition between parents of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. More details to come!
I’m always glad to hear from you! Email me anytime at sewaneeparents@sewanee.edu.

Director of Family & Donor Engagement
P.S.: Recently, many of you have asked for information about being part of the Sewanee Parents' Council. All Sewanee parents and grandparents are welcome to join at any time during the year! Find more details here.

If your student is in the Class of 2026, you may have heard about our $5 for 5 Senior Giving Campaign!
From now through April 30, any senior who sets up an annual recurring gift of $5 or more, to last through the next five years, will be entered in a raffle for four VIP seats at Commencement in All Saints’ Chapel. Space limitations prevent the University from making these seats available to parents more broadly.
Philanthropy is a great habit, and your student’s support will help future generations thrive on the Mountain. Your senior can make a gift here.

Sewanee’s ongoing Coffee with the Coach series has been a great way for parents to hear directly from the leaders of our athletic programs. Recently, we welcomed new head football coach Joe Freitag, who joined Sewanee in December after an impressive 11-year run at Monmouth College. You can watch his conversation here.

Career Readiness + Student Success |
If your student has secured an unpaid summer internship, University funds are available to support their work! The deadline to apply is April 1, but it is a thorough application and requires advance preparation. All the information about this process is accessible to students in the Career Readiness Brightspace.

If your student needs academic support, guidance, or tools as they move into the second half of this semester, remember Student Success coaches are available to meet with your student one-on-one to make a plan. Here's information about the coaching program and what to expect.
After spring break, Career Readiness + Student Success staff invites seniors to bring their laptops and apply for jobs together. These will be in-person opportunities every Thursday, starting on March 19, where students can talk about job search strategies, how to stand out in online applications, and utilizing networking in their search—and can also apply for some jobs.

| University Health Services |
Spring is on the way, but winter illnesses haven’t quite left the Mountain yet. Just a reminder: If your student feels unwell, they can make an appointment at University Health Services anytime during business hours—Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

| Sewanee is already preparing for the 2026-2027 academic year, and the housing and room selection process is well underway!
The Office of Residential Life is hosting two sessions for students to learn about housing applications, roommate matching, selection dates and times, and the room selection process.
|
|
|
Our second and final session will be on Wednesday, March 4, from 5–6 p.m. in the ABC Room of McClurg Dining Hall. We’ll also have Housing Selection Process Q&A tables on March 25 and 26 from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. in McClurg.
Housing applications and contracts are due by Sunday, March 8, at 11:59 p.m. Room selection opens on March 30. Students will receive a date and time for selection based on their class and gown status.
If your student has questions, they can contact Residential Life via email at reslife@sewanee.edu or phone at 931.598.1446.

A message from David Colbert-Goicoa, associate professor of Spanish and chair of the Department of Spanish and Italian:
While class attendance at Sewanee has improved since the end of the pandemic, it has not bounced back to pre-pandemic levels. We're concerned by the resulting learning loss—we believe we learn better together, and that when a student misses class, everybody's experience is diminished.
|
|
| |
Sewanee faculty are launching efforts to improve attendance, which you may hear more about in the future. We ask that you encourage your students not to miss class for any other reason than illness, family emergencies, and University business such as an athletic competition. We especially need your support in the days before vacations. We ask parents not to book early departures for their students, to take notice of their return dates, and to discourage travel plans that involve missing any classes. We're grateful for your help in creating a culture shift!

With winter's freezing temperatures mostly behind us (we hope!), it's a good time to get out and explore the Domain! Sewanee's Office of Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability recently created a quick-start guide for local hiking and launched an updated trail map. Check them out here!
