Dear Friend,
Happy almost-Thanksgiving! We appreciate you and all of our supporters and wish you a peaceful and joyful holiday season.

Do Beautiful Things This Holiday Season (And All Year Long)

One of our guiding principles at Keep Massachusetts Beautiful is to encourage people to “do beautiful things.” In fact, you’ll often see this phrase used as a hashtag on our social media posts.

This sentiment goes beyond picking up litter and beautifying communities. Our goal is to bring people together to find common ground, build connections, encourage civic engagement and acts of kindness. In these divisive times, we can all certainly use a bit more joy and connection in our lives!
Giving Tuesday is an annual global day of generosity that occurs on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It was created in 2012 as a way to counter the commercialism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday by encouraging people to give back through donations, volunteering, or acts of kindness.
In the meantime, THANK YOU to all of our volunteers who “do beautiful things” to create positive energy in their communities all year long.

Leaders Against Litter: KMB Testifies at State House Hearing

The Joint Committee on Transportation held a hearing on November 4, which included an opportunity to testify in support of Senate Resolve 2390, which calls for the creation of a statewide Litter Prevention and Cleanup Task Force.

KMB was able to testify remotely via Zoom from a roadside cleanup that we were leading in Foxborough. Many others also emailed their state representatives and senators to urge the state to take some PROACTIVE ACTION to reduce litter in Massachusetts.

Next steps: The Joint Committee on Transportation must vote on this initiative by December 3. It’s not too late to voice your support. Please email the Chairs and members of the Joint Committee on Transportation and urge them to vote to support Senate Resolve 2390.

Explore The Recycling Road Map

Many people continue to wonder, “do my recyclables actually get recycled?” The short answer is yes!
While some items may get diverted to a landfill or waste-to-energy incinerator, recycling remains a thriving business here in Massachusetts. So let's not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Do your best to educate yourself and avoid being a "wish-cycler," especially during America Recycles Month.

To better understand the recycling process, visit the RecycleSmart Recycling Road Map. This interactive site provides a detailed explanation of how raw materials are used to manufacture products that go from store shelves to recycling bins to recycling plants and back into consumer products.

If you’d like to learn the finer points of recycling, check out our Talking Trash & Recycling video or sign up for a customized local presentation.

KMB Kudos: Keep Natick Beautiful

Keep Natick Beautiful (KNB) recently hosted a backyard barbecue to honor and thank its most loyal volunteers. KNB is led by Pat Conaway, a former public school teacher and past KMB Chapter Leader of the Year award winner.
The KNB team leads an annual town-wide cleanup and maintains many public trash and recycling bins, including those along the Cochituate Rail Trail. Thank you to the dedicated volunteers who give their time to Keep Natick Beautiful!
