Dean Urs Peter “Upe” Flueckiger was a guest on episode #301 / Modernist Places Part 1: Southridge + Marfa + Rocky Mountains + Musical Guest Laura Windley on the USModernist Radio podcast. This episode was recorded on May 22nd during Modernism Week 2023 and was about interesting modernist places and buildings you may not know. It explored Southridge in Palm Springs with architect Susan Secoy Jensen; Marfa, Texas, with Dean Flueckiger; and the Rocky Mountains with author John Gendall. El Paso faculty Ersela Kripa, Stephen Mueller, and Andres Gandara will be presenting their paper titled "Place-Based Design Curriculum for Environmental and Spatial Justice" at the ACSA/EAAE Teachers Conference in Reykjavík, Iceland, on June 24th, 2023. The presentation will expand upon the unique pedagogical framing of their respective studios, which engage architectural issues through material extraction, environmental neglect, and construction waste streams to address inequity in the built environment. The theme for this year's ACSA/EAAE conference is titled Educating the Cosmopolitan Architect, and they will present in the Dissident Intellectuals session. Thank you to all who joined us during the AIA Conference on Architecture 2023 (Wednesday, June 7th - Saturday, June 10th) for the TTU Huckabee College of Architecture Alumni Reception held on June 8th. We are also grateful to David Hart, HCOA alumnus, who opened his Steinberg Hart office in downtown San Francisco for the reception on Thursday evening. It was great to see so many alumni and friends of the college catching up and making new connections.

David Hart, Huckabee College of Architecture alumnus and President and CEO of Steinberg Hart, was recently highlighted in a piece titled "Exploring What's Possible" on Texas Tech Today's website. The story, written by Lucy Greenberg, touches on the values Hart learned in West Texas and how using them has helped him change the world of architecture. Hart currently serves as Vice President of the HCOA's Design Leadership Alliance and is President-Elect for the coming year. To view the full story on David Hart, click here.

Jeff Hover, facilities director at the Huckabee College of Architecture, has been elected to serve on the Texas Tech University Staff Senate and will act as a representative for the HCOA. The TTU Staff Senate exists to contribute to the welfare of its staff employees; to serve as a liaison among staff, administration, faculty, and students; and to advise the administration in matters affecting the staff.
