Student Spotlight
Haley Segura
Meet Haley Segura! She’s a double major in Environmental & Sustainability Studies and Health, Society & Policy. She is also a  Solutions Scholar. "I'm a Utah native who loves spending time outdoors. I'm lucky to have the Wasatch mountains in my backyard because it's a giant playground, and I try to spend my free time hiking, skiing, or hammocking there. This summer I plan on working, traveling, and working on Erin Mendenhall's mayoral campaign. I chose Health Society and Policy (HSP) because it is a multidisciplinary major focusing on human health, which is something I have always been drawn to. The major is diverse and people come from various backgrounds and have different opinions, and we must address issues from different perspectives."
The Truth About Online Course Workloads

While online courses are a great option for those who need a more flexible schedule, not all students chose an online course instead of an in-person seminar for the right reasons. Many students believe that online classes are easier than regular classes, yet, this is rarely the case. Online course instructors are required to assign work that is the equivalent to a regular class, so if you are taking a 3-credit online course, expect to dedicate 9 hours to that class every week. Many students underestimate the time required to succeed in an online course, and tend to procrastinate class work until the moment it is due. Make sure you know the weekly commitment to your online class, how many hours of work are expected, and when assignments are due!
Women in Economics Club

Women in Economics is committed to creating a space where women can feel more included in the Economics major, which is currently only 20% female. Additionally, WIE seeks to not only connect women with a community in the Economics major, but to also provide academic and professional opportunities within the program.

University Food Drive
  • Food Donations: Monday, November 11- Saturday, November 23
  • Cash Donations: Monday, November 11 - Saturday, November 30

Every year the University of Utah’s Student Alumni Board hosts a University Food Drive to collect non-perishable food items and cash donations that will be given to the Utah Food Bank, which will then be redistributed to the university’s Feed U Pantry! This year the Food Drive will be held from November 11 to November 23, with monetary donations remaining open until November 30.
Studies have shown that approximately 36% of university students are considered "food insecure," meaning they don't get as much to eat as recommended. Thus, the primary goal is to help students in our own community at the U receive three meals a day.
