Meet Vivie Nguyen
As director for intercultural engagement, Vivie Nguyen helps students understand the many identities that inform each person, and creates opportunities for Loggers to engage with and learn from each other. One such opportunity launches this week: Tan Lines, a talk show-style panel series featuring millennial women of color. Off campus, Vivie is on the hunt for the best food in Tacoma. Her picks? Ice Cream Social on Sixth Avenue, and Marzano Italian Restaurant. “Best lasagna around,” she says.

HACKS & CHOPS There’s more to grandparenting than meets the eye. In her research on the phenomenon of intensive grandparenting, Associate Professor of Sociology and Anthropology Jennifer Utrata breaks the stereotype of grandparents as strictly indulgent purveyors of treats and field trips, and reveals “all this invisible labor behind the scenes.”
