Now is the Best Time to Get Flu, RSV, and COVID-19 Vaccines |

At the Sept. 24 Orange County Board of Health meeting, board members who wanted a flu vaccine got one. And whether they got a vaccine that evening or not, the board stood as one in support of vaccines.
Board Chair, Dr. Alison Stuebe shared, "Last winter, I took care of patients in the hospital with the flu – patients who were vaccinated spent a night in the hospital; the patients who were not vaccinated were in the intensive care unit. The Board of Health got flu shots because they work. Vaccination lowers your chance of getting sick, makes illness milder if you do, and helps protect loved ones. Get your shot at the health department, your doctor’s office, or your local pharmacy."

The Orange County Office of Civil Rights and Civic Life has created a page to help residents understand new state laws that may affect their rights. It includes summaries, key details, full Bill links, and tips for preparation.
Effective Oct. 1, HB 318 – The Criminal Illegal Alien Enforcement Act – will require administrators in detention centers and judicial officials setting initial release conditions for serious misdemeanors and all felonies to determine if a person is a U.S. citizen or has legal residency status. If this can’t be determined, individuals face a period of detention while ICE is contacted.

Free Voter ID Event on Oct. 4 |
Orange County voters who need a photo ID for voting may visit the Board of Elections office on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. to get their free ID. Voters may also use this opportunity to register to vote or update their registration.

- The voter registration deadline is Oct. 10. Voters who miss this deadline may still register and vote in person at any early voting site.
- Early voting begins Oct. 16 in Hillsborough. Four additional sites will open on Oct. 23, and all early voting locations will close on Nov. 1 at 3 p.m.
- Voters may request an absentee ballot by mail through Oct.21. Don’t wait—submit your request today to ensure plenty of time to vote by mail!
