NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CHIP DAY

Did you know that chocolate chips actually came after the chocolate chip cookie? Despite their ubiquity, they are likely younger than your grandmother (they were first marketed in 1940!). Legend has it that the chocolate chip cookie was a happy accident, born when a baker ran out of baker’s chocolate and opted for semi-sweet instead.
Now, bust out those cookie sheets and sharpen your baking skills so you can enter the Canning & Baking competition at next year's CA State Fair & Food Festival!
New to baking? Try out this simple but delicious recipe from Josie's sister in law:
KATLIN'S CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips
DIRECTIONS:
  1. Pre-heat oven to 375º
  2. Soften butter, ~20 seconds
  3. Add egg, sugars, salt, baking soda, and vanilla to the butter; mix
  4. Add flour, mix
  5. Add chocolate chips, mix
  6. Spray a baking tray with cooking spray and drop dough by spoonfuls
  7. Bake for 7 minutes or until the bottoms are light brown
  8. Cool and enjoy!
