Over 25 years ago, I stumbled into a profession that has given me more than I could ever dream. Working in Student Affairs has been the journey of a lifetime. When I first came to college, I only wanted a degree and a good job. Who knew that during my experience in college, I would find a profession that would be not only rewarding but life-changing for me and the students I have been blessed to impact.
My journey started with a work-study position in the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs for the Testing Officer. During this time, I had the opportunity to be fully exposed to everything the university had to offer. My undergraduate years went fast and I was approaching graduation before I knew it. A mentor and supervisor asked me to consider going into Student Affairs. To be honest, I did not fully understand the implications of this decision, but they painted a picture that in the end I truly embraced.
Similar to that experience, all of us in the Division of Student Experience want to shine a light on the opportunities that exist with our profession. Therefore, if you are a student assistant working in Kilcawley student center, the office of Student Activities, Residence Life, or Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center, we want you to consider the impact that you are making on our students each day. This might be an opportunity for you to join us on this journey of influencing lives.
Now, as Vice President of Student Affairs, it is my goal to support the next generation of Student Affairs professionals to continue the legacy that was created years ago. Just like the person who tapped me on the shoulder and launched me into a career that has given me more than I could ever hope for, it is my time to tap future leaders on that same shoulder and asked them to consider a life in Student Affairs. If you have passion and you are committed, you will never regret it.
Sincerely,
| |
Dr. Eddie J. Howard, Vice President for Student Affairs

VIRTUAL FINANCIAL AID NIGHTS
The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will host two Virtual Financial Aid Nights on Wednesday, October 21 at 6:30pm and Tuesday, October 27 at 6:30pm. Historically, the office has hosted this event in-person following the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) October 1 annual release date for the upcoming aid year. Due to the pandemic, however, this year the office is opting to maintain its commitment to educating the families of prospective students in grades 11 and 12 on financial aid processes, applications, and deadlines—but in a safe, yet accessible manner. The Virtual Financial Aid Night will offer the same quality of information by way of a comprehensive presentation through WebEx, as well as opportunities to live chat, or call in to speak with financial aid staff to ask questions or set up appointments both during and after the presentation. Advance registration is required. Go to the link below to register.
