Dear Friend of Streetside Stories,
Do you remember a time in your childhood when you felt extremely proud? It’s a moment you won’t easily forget. It comes after you’ve tackled something challenging and with encouragement from someone who cares. It results in a confidence and eagerness to take on additional challenges. For many youth, these kinds of experience are dwindling as public schools face more challenges and fewer resources.

Because of our loyal donors, Streetside Stories programs create brave spaces for youth to discover visual, media and literary arts. The arts provide a pathway for students to actively engage how they learn new things. Developing more skills and mastering new tools allow students to improve their literacy, push back on misinformed public media about their communities, and reclaim their own stories. By discovering their voices, our students discover power and value in their identities.
Streetside Stories needs to raise $10,000 from our community of supporters to fully meet all of our summer program requests. Your gift of $50, $100, $500, or any amount will help us reach hundreds of students from June through August.
One look through our student gallery will show the impact of your past support. One episode of the news will reinforce the need to encourage and support the next generation. One teaching artist can change the life of a child. One workshop can open up a world of art and literacy. You make this possible.
During these particularly turbulent times, when schools struggle with more challenges and fewer resources, your gift makes an extraordinary difference for Bay Area students. We have more requests for programing than we can fulfill. Your gift ensures that more students will learn the power of their own engagement and gain the confidence they need to succeed.
As part of our Streetside Stories family, you can make a difference this school year. Please give today.
With gratitude,

Rick Oculto
Board Chair

P.S.  We urge you to consider a recurring monthly gift or a single stretch commitment as we begin planning for the 2018 – 2019 school year.

Streetside Stories programs equip young people with the tools to tell their own stories -- stories which are often misrepresented or missing form the dominant/mainstream narrative. In each workshop, students are placed at the center of their own learning and explore their lives through creative writing, comics, photography, animation, visual arts, and performance. Students share personal experiences and reflect on narratives of identity that include a focus on self, family, and community. Learn more at www.streetside.org
