When I was growing up, my father, a florist, had a love of Longwood Gardens. We visited four times a year … Christmas, Orchids, Spring, and Fall. We would spend hours there and had to see every single inch of the Gardens. I didn't understand the draw, but I went with my father because he asked. He truly had a green thumb and every time we went, he left with new photos, sketches, and plants. After my father passed away, I stopped coming to Longwood and I stayed away for 25 years, even though I drove by every day on my way to work. A friend encouraged me to go back and I did. Now I am a Member, walk the Meadow for exercise, sometimes work remotely in the Conservatory, bring friends and family to visit and share the beauty. Most of all, I feel connected to my father, understand the joy he received from strolling the gardens, and I feel a sense of peace.
