We wanted to kick off the Halloween weekend with a treat … brand new Members-only features, which you’ll find below in this edition of Longwood from Home! This week, plan for your next Longwood stroll with our new self-guided bird walk, get your creativity flowing with a new paint-by-number, prepare for the warmth and cheer of A Longwood Christmas, and more.

Discover What's in Bloom

Big, bold beauty is on display in our Conservatory … it’s Chrysanthemum Festival time! Come explore thousands of carefully nurtured and trained chrysanthemums, as well as the star of the show … our Thousand Bloom Chrysanthemum bearing 1,362 sunny yellow blooms on a single stem. Catch the display through November 15!

Same Beauty, New Guidelines

Make your holiday oh so merry and bright by planning ahead for A Longwood Christmas this year. With the display opening November 20, the time to plan is … now!
We have limited our admission capacity for the season, so please make your Member reservations in advance. Free, timed Member reservations are required from open to close every day during A Longwood Christmas. Gardens Premium Members do not require reservations. Please refer to our website for all of our new holiday season visiting procedures. We can’t wait to welcome you.

Paint a Longwood Landscape

Pull out those paints and get creative with our new paint-by-number activity! Create your own seasonal vista of our Meadow Garden right from the comfort of your home.

Take a Walk

Bring your binoculars and wander through the Gardens while seeking out some of our most beloved feathered friends! From majestic great herons near our Hourglass Lake to chatty mockingbirds in our Meadow Garden, this guide helps you find a variety of interesting birds during the fall and winter seasons.

Delve into Gardens History

As you wander through our East Conservatory, you’ll come across our 14-foot-high and 300-foot-long Green Wall. The largest of such in North America, this structure (which began as a sketch on a cocktail napkin!) was designed by British landscape architect Kim Wilkie and installed in 2010.
The Green Wall features more than 33,000 plants housed in 12” x 12” stainless steel panels developed for use in vertical gardening. In this lush display you’ll find spider plants, ballistic plants, spike-mosses, and many varieties of ferns. Each panel is planted in one of 29 different planting configurations based on plant type, lighting requirements, and other factors. Visit this space during your next visit for a picture-worthy backdrop!

Discover Membership

Members are invited to join Longwood staff on November 18 at 12 pm for a virtual introduction to our Gardens. Discover all your Membership has to offer! Learn about your Member benefits, visiting tips, and the history of Longwood. Afterward, enjoy a fun Gardens activity!

Your Moment at Longwood

Autumn is a time of stories and memories … and we hope you’ll share your favorite Longwood autumn moments. Submit them through our #LongwoodLove initiative on our website or use #LongwoodLove when posting online.
This week, delight in the story of Member Felicia C.:
When I was growing up, my father, a florist, had a love of Longwood Gardens. We visited four times a year … Christmas, Orchids, Spring, and Fall. We would spend hours there and had to see every single inch of the Gardens. I didn't understand the draw, but I went with my father because he asked. He truly had a green thumb and every time we went, he left with new photos, sketches, and plants. After my father passed away, I stopped coming to Longwood and I stayed away for 25 years, even though I drove by every day on my way to work. A friend encouraged me to go back and I did. Now I am a Member, walk the Meadow for exercise, sometimes work remotely in the Conservatory, bring friends and family to visit and share the beauty. Most of all, I feel connected to my father, understand the joy he received from strolling the gardens, and I feel a sense of peace.
