Message from the Associate Dean and Extension Director

Last week I communicated the fact that annual performance reports (APRs) for all Cooperative Extension System (CES) faculty are due 1 February 2019 via the UAVitae system.  This includes faculty in academic and county units.

Since then several individuals have asked for clarification since later dates have been identified in their individual units and non-Extension faculty have more time to complete their APRs.

The 1 February due date is established for CES faculty because the individual APRs are reviewed for Extension faculty prior to every unit's annual review.

The information provided in the individual APRs for Extension faculty is extensively utilized in the development of the annual report that is filed by the CES administration to the USDA-NIFA.

Therefore, complete APRs for Extension faculty serve as a benefit to the individual, the unit, and the entire CES organization in the review of our capacity to deliver on our mission.

Work-Life Balance Reminders

In pursuit of our Foundational Goal to be the most sought-after place to be a part of, we recognize that enabling employees to balance work and home life is a critical aspect of overall well-being. With that in mind, we would like to remind folks that the UA has several policies and benefits in place that help them do just that.

During the State of the College meeting in January 2015 Vice President and Dean Burgess emphasized the importance of work-life balance and then sent a memo to his direct reports entitled “Guidelines for Temporary Assignment of Alternative Duties for Appointed Personnel, Health-related Leaves, and Clock Delay”. Although the memo primarily refers to AP and Faculty policies, the applicable policies are also found in the Classified Staff HR Policy Manual, Section 2.

Additionally, Life & Work Connections offers numerous benefits to employees including:
Childcare resources (including a reimbursement program for childcare)
Elder Care resources
Employee Assistance (including stress management, communication, and counseling)
Employee Wellness (including free confidential and personalized nutrition and/or fitness coaching)
