Biosafety Oversight
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) issued a statement ‘NIH Launches Initiative to Modernize and Strengthen Biosafety Oversight’ on September 9, 2025 focused on working with the research community on ‘a comprehensive effort to modernize and strengthen biosafety policies, practices, and oversight’.

Research Security
The NIH issued a notice regarding the ‘Implementation of NIH Research Security Policies’ (NOT-OD-25-154) which requires a ‘two-part compliance for both covered institutions and individuals’, effective on or after January 25, 2026 for submitted applications and provides information on ‘Research Security Training Resources’ and ‘Research Security Training Requirements’. In addition, the notice provides information on the ‘Malign Foreign Talent Recruitment Program Prohibition’, effective as of September 11, 2025 and the ‘Malign Foreign Talent Recruitment Program Certification’.
