Dear Members,
With nearly all our teams back on the field this month, we are excited for the kickoff of spring league play and for the spring tournament season. Over the winter break, many U15+ Surf players represented our club well in high school play this winter and we congratulate those who helped Oak Ridge varsity girls team capture the Division 1 State Championship, coached by our very own Rino Chimienti. Coach Rino was voted Coach of the Year by the California Coach’s Association - great job Rino!
In addition, we have been busy working on restructuring our league with an aim to create a more defined link between Folsom Soccer Club (our league’s recreation program) and Surf. We sat an entirely new league Board on February 8 that will provide governance over the two clubs as these clubs start operating as one. Our goal is to offer a smooth “rec-to-comp” pathway for players and to ensure a better customer experience along the way. To this end, you will start seeing Folsom Soccer Club/Surf information being presented in all future media releases. We look forward to sharing the great things our recreation program has to offer alongside the great things happening at Surf.
Our staff attended the annual “Surf Summit” meeting in San Diego last month. This is a meeting between Surf affiliated clubs from all over the United States including Puerto Rico and from Canada. I am happy to report that Surf Nation is strong! I look forward to sharing all of the great collaborations across the network being planned to ensure our players have access to excellent playing experiences and college exposure.
Lastly, I would like to congratulate our players who made the Surf Select National Teams after attending last month’s ID camp in San Diego. National teams made up of players from all Surf affiliates will represent Surf Nation in events in San Diego, Orlando, Northern Ireland, and Spain. Our club is well represented, and we look forward to sharing our player’s success stories.
Thank you for your support and Go Surf!
Fritz
