SB5671 is scheduled for hearing today, Monday February 13th!
Last week Melissa Gombosky sent a call to action to all superintendents related to SB5671. As a region, we elected to prioritize the re-enstatement of the staff mix factor. The hearing for SB5671 is scheduled for today! Melissa asks that, if you haven't already done so, please take a minute to sign in "pro" . Melissa will be providing testimony in committee.
SB 5671 – Making experience factor adjustments for certificated instructional staff.
SB 5671 - sponsored by MacEwen. This bill provides additional funding to districts that exceed the statewide average of certificated staff with advanced degrees or experience.
Recommended Position: Support
Testify or sign in: Pro. This would result in many districts receiving additional funding for current staff.

"Each February, National Black History Month serves as both a celebration and a powerful reminder that Black history is American history, Black culture is American culture, and Black stories are essential to the ongoing story of America — our faults, our struggles, our progress, and our aspirations. Shining a light on Black history today is as important to understanding ourselves and growing stronger as a Nation as it has ever been. That is why it is essential that we take time to celebrate the immeasurable contributions of Black Americans, honor the legacies and achievements of generations past, reckon with centuries of injustice, and confront those injustices that still fester today." Joe Biden (Read Full Proclamation)
As educators it is our job to build up our students to help them see their highest potential. We do so not only through effective instruction, but by creating meaningful relationships which celebrate the diversity of our classrooms. Not only this month, but all year, we should take time out of our busy schedules to ensure that our students and staff know these stories and that they have ample exposure to celebrations of Black culture.
Here are a few online resources to share with your educators to help them get started!

| This Thursday, FEB 16th @1PM
ESD 105 has been a strong supporter of Children's Village since their opening 25 year ago. The work Children's Village does in our community is essential in providing support to our students (and their families) through some of their most difficult times and toughest struggles.
While we recognize that most of our educational leaders are aware of the impact Children's Village has in our community, we realize that not all have had the chance to visit their facilities to see their work in action!
Following WASA-SCR, superintendents and their designees and special education directors are invited to take a tour of Children's Village. The tour will conclude with an informational session led by the CEO's of Children's Village and Memorial Foundation to share about future expansion of their facilities and the programs they offer!
When is the tour?
February 16, 2023 from 1-2:15PM
Where should I meet?
3801 Kern Road
Yakima, WA 98902
This tour is intended for:
Superintendents & Designees
Special Education Directors
