Duke Graduate School
Dear Graduate School students,
As we begin the fall semester, please see below for important updates regarding Duke’s COVID-19 Policy Plan and other information and resources related to campus COVID safety for fall. If you have any questions, please contact me at grad-surveillance-testing@duke.edu

COVID-19 Policy Plan

The Graduate and Professional Student COVID-19 Policy Plan as revised for the 2021-2022 academic year is now available online for your review.
This policy is effective Monday, August 23. These standards reflect the public health measures instituted last year, adapted to new circumstances such as vaccination and a better understanding of COVID-related risks. They have the crucial goal of keeping our community safe and healthy as we return to in-person instruction, and may evolve in light of the pandemic’s shifting conditions.
As such, students are required to comply with these standards, and failure to do so may result in disciplinary action.

Fall Campus COVID Safety

As Duke returns to in-person teaching for the fall, we recognize that graduate and professional students may have questions related to COVID safety practices in the classroom.
Provost Sally Kornbluth and Duke University School of Medicine Dean Mary Klotman have provided a video overview of current campus COVID safety planning and information in response to some common questions and concerns about the fall semester.
For more detailed information, the university has also posted an updated set of frequently asked questions related to fall classes and COVID safety.
Duke’s central administration, as well as school and unit leaders, will provide updates about COVID conditions and any policy updates to the campus community on a regular basis throughout the semester. An archive of updates from central administration and a list of campus resources are posted on the Duke Coronavirus Response website for your reference. You can also find information curated specifically for Graduate School students on the school’s own COVID updates page.
The Duke community navigated the pandemic last year thanks to sustained commitment to public health protocols by the great majority of faculty, staff, graduate and professional students, and undergraduates. We will need that level of commitment again from everyone at Duke. We are thankful to be back on campus together, and look forward to working with you to make this a safe and successful academic year.
