Faculty Workshop to Look at Federal Agencies in Statehouse
The first Faculty Workshop of the semester will feature Professor Adam Zimmerman on "Federal Agencies in the Statehouse" at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29 in C90s (with virtual option). The paper addresses a phenomenon that hasn’t been discussed in the literature and that seems to turn classic notions of federalism on its head: the many ways federal government agencies shape, influence, and even write state legislation. Coelho Center Looks at Future of Disability Rights with Guests from Dept. of Justice
The Coelho Center for Disability Law, Policy & Innovation will host "ADA, DOJ, & the Future of Disability Rights featuring Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke" from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28. Topics will include web and application accessibility, Olmstead issues and enforcement, voting rights, the new 988 mental-health hotline and more. The event will consist of a conversation between Dean Michael Waterstone and Deputy Assistant Attorney General (DAAG) Jennifer Mathis about the future of disability rights and the role of the DOJ. Representatives from five leading disability rights organizations will join in a panel to react to the AAG and DAAG's comments as well as discuss their organizations' priorities for the rest of the Biden Administration and beyond. Project for the Innocent Speakers to Commemorate Wrongful Conviction Day
The Loyola Project for the Innocent will commemorate the ninth-annual International Wrongful Conviction Day with a lunch event from 12-1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 3. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the causes and remedies of wrongful conviction and to recognize the tremendous personal, social, and emotional costs of wrongful conviction for innocent people, their families, and our society. Professor Laurie Levenson will serve as emcee, with exoneree guest speakers including Marco Contreras and Ruben Piñuelas, who will speak about their unique experiences and perspectives. LPI Legal Fellow Lena Kerouani and clinical student Leilee Ghassemi will share their international perspective on wrongful convictions. More>>

Policing L.A. Forum: Does Court Monitoring Provide Effective Oversight of Conditions in Los Angeles County Jails?
The Policing Los Angeles Forum (PLAF) series at LMU Loyola Law School continues this Fall with "Does Court Monitoring Provide Effective Oversight of Conditions in Los Angeles County Jails?" to be held virtually at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20. Panelists will include Professor Sunita Patel, UCLA; Melissa Camacho-Cheung, ACLU of Southern California; and Assistant Attorney General Eric Bates, LA County Office of Inspector General. LMU Real Estate Certificate Program
The LMU Real Estate Certificate Program equips students with conceptual, practical and specialized skills and knowledge of various real estate topics. Led by industry professionals (primarily LMU alums), the program features a series of seminars that cover a variety of topics. The program is free and open to all LMU students, including Loyola Law School students. The first seminar, "Real Estate Investment Principles," kicks off Friday, Sept. 30 and will be held both in-person and via Zoom. Learn more and register.
