Hooray for DD Day

The 2021 Maryland Legislative Session has begun. How can you be informed and involved? Developmental Disabilities Days at the Legislature is an event our advocates look forward to all year! This year, it offers a week of virtual advocacy and opportunities for information and connection with legislators. The main event will be Tuesday, February 9, from 9-11 am. Join us then to hear from Governor Hogan, state legislators, and fellow advocates from all corners of the state. It will be an informative and inspirational day!  Click here to register.

Vaccine Pre-registration

Great news!  Pre-registration for the COVID-19 vaccine is now open to Montgomery County residents in Priority Groups 1B and 1C. This includes people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and people aged 65+.  Click here to pre-register for a vaccine appointment.
You must be a Montgomery County resident and have proof that you are included in Priority Groups 1B or 1C. If you do not fit into these groups, you will not be allowed to receive the vaccine, even if you have an appointment. Click here to learn more about the MoCo vaccine distribution.

Just The Facts, In Your Language!

We're all talking about the COVID-19 vaccine. Here at The Arc Montgomery County, we know that there is a lot of information out there, but it's not all created equal. To help you get the facts, we've compiled reputable sources that you can consult in English, French, and Spanish.  Click here for more information.

Proposed RELIEF Act Includes DD Funding

Amendments to SB 496, the RELIEF Act, include $5 million for grants to DD providers! This legislation is promising, but it still has to go through the process of being voted on by the Senate and the House, and then signed by the Governor. While you watch for news on how this bill progresses, we hope that you will also voice your gratitude to President Bill Ferguson, Chairman Guy Guzzone, and the Senate Democratic leadership for including us in this relief package!  Click here to learn more about the funding included in this Senate ammendment.

Discussions with Daria Continue!

Discussions with Daria provides an opportunity for The Arc Montgomery County's employees, people supported, and families of people supported to engage directly with Daria Cervantes, our Interim CEO, on a regular basis.  Each Friday at 3 pm, Daria will host a Zoom discussion targeted to a particular group. Participants are welcome to submit their questions in advance.  Click here to learn more and register for a session.

Governor Hogan's proposed FY 2022 budget is here and the Maryland DD Coucil has compiled highlights of interest to people with developmental disabilities and their families. This resource breaks down everything you need to know going into the 2021 Legislative Session, and even includes links to budget hearing dates and a primer on the DD Council's positions on each bill as it comes to the floor.  Be informed and be an advocate: click here for this useful resource.

Video Resource from The Arc US

The Arc of the United States has added a video library to their free, plain-language COVID-19 resources for disability advocates.  The videos explain the coronavirus pandemic and how it is affecting daily life. Topics include an explanation of COVID-19, how it is affecting people with disabilities, how wearing masks can help prevent the spread of coronavirus, and more.  Click here to access this resource.

Understanding Vaccine Distribution

We all have questions, and probably some frustrations, concerning COVID-19 vaccine distribution. It is a complicated and rapidly evolving situation. MoCo Councilmember Andrew Friedson penned a very helpful article last week, full of useful links, that covers the issue and available resources. Click here to read his post.
