COM OSFA will host a live webinar on student loan repayment strategies presented by Jonathan Chancellor, Education Debt Management Specialist at the AAMC. Everything you need to know about student loan repayment, loan forgiveness and budgeting as a Resident will be discussed during this session. It is strongly recommended that all M4 student loan borrowers attend.

Loans for Disadvantaged Students (LDS)
Deadline: March 8, 2026
All Class Levels are eligible; Must be U.S. Citizen or Permanent resident; FAFSA Required
The LDS program provides long-term, low-interest rate loans to full-time (12+ hours for fall AND spring term), financially needy students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue a medical degree. Applicants MUST provide their parent’s 2023 federal tax returns to determination of eligibility, regardless of age or marital status.
Primary Care Loan (PCL)
Deadline: March 8, 2026
M4 students only; Must be U.S. Citizen or Permanent resident; FAFSA Required
The PCL program strives to increase the number of primary care physicians by providing low-interest loans to full-time (12+ hours for fall AND spring term), financially needy students to pursue a degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine. PCL awardees will be finalized after Match Day. Applicants must provide their parent’s 2023 federal tax returns or submit signed copies of their or their parent’s federal tax returns for the past 3 years (2022, 2023, and 2024) to prove your independent status.

Scholarship and Professional Development Opportunities |

Available to University of Illinois sports students who demonstrate excellence in athletic endeavors and academic pursuits.

Internal Deadline: February 9, 2026
Available to current M2 students set to graduate in May 2028 who have shown leadership in efforts to eliminate inequities in medical education and health care. The students should have demonstrated leadership initiative in addressing the educational, societal, and health care needs of racial and ethnic minorities in the United States. One UI COM student will be nominated to apply for this scholarship, based on the preliminary application submitted in SnAP. The internal application for nomination is available via the UIC SnAP scholarship portal.

The Physicians of Tomorrow program is one of the AMA Foundation’s flagship initiatives, designed to support and elevate the next generation of physician leaders. By providing substantial tuition assistance and national recognition, the program invests in medical students who embody the values of leadership, academic excellence, and a commitment to advancing health equity. Must be a U.S. Citizen, permanent resident, or have DACA status.
