LITERACY TIP

Have books everywhere in your house, in your car, and in your purse or diaper bag. Make sure your child is registered for Imagination Library and has their very own library card. A child who is surrounded by books is much more likely to become a good reader!

AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH

In February, Nashville Public Library celebrates African American History Month with a variety of programs. Visit a story time at your favorite branch or go see Anansi the Spider.

Book of the Month

Miss Ashley at Edmondson Pike Branch Library chooses Chocolate Me! by Taye Diggs as one of her favorite books because it teaches young children to love themselves just the way they are.

Fairy Tales!

Fairy tales have been around for hundreds of years, but the original versions can be terrifying and disturbing. Forget about those! Here are some of our favorite traditional stories and some great modern interpretations.

Did You Know?

MNPS has a Kindergarten Readiness site that tells you everything you need to know about preparing your child for and enrolling them in kindergarten. They share information to build your child's abilities in literacy, STEM, motor skills, and social/emotional development.

Learning Activity

Comparing and contrasting are important early math skills. Toddlers are great sorters, and infants love throwing things into containers and getting them back out.
Give your little one a group of objects and practice sorting them by color, shape, size, etc. See if your child can think of another way to sort them that you haven't mentioned. Have fun!
