May District Leader Newsletter
May District Leader Newsletter
May 2018 | A monthly publication of the National Speech & Debate Association

Dear Leader,

This is the last district leader newsletter of the 2017-2018 school year! Thank you for your service to our community. Your influence in the speech and debate community reaches far beyond your school. We are so grateful for the work you do to provide life changing resources to young people!
Now that you are almost a year into your two-year elected volunteer role on an NSDA committee, please consider sharing your feedback in the form of a midterm survey.

We hope you'll also consider nominating a peer for the District Leader Commendation Award! This award recognizes outstanding individual contributions while also raising awareness about the value of distributive leadership. Please note that district chairs are not eligible for this award.

Chairs, Please Recommend Judges!

Each chair must recommend a minimum of six highly qualified judges to be used at the National Tournament semifinal and final rounds. We ask that you nominate experienced individuals from diverse backgrounds, diverse schools, and diverse ideologies. Please note that all nominated judges must be available for the entirety of the tournament.

As chair, you are required to notify these judges of their selection, and remind them to attend all assigned rounds at the National Tournament. Judges who do not appear will forfeit their judge bond.

Please complete you judge nominations by Monday, May 21. To submit your nominations, follow these steps:
1. Log in to Tabroom
2. Select your district under the "Institutions" banner on the right side panel.
3. Select "Judges" from the top menu bar (pictured below).

Tab Room Volunteers Needed

We are still looking for volunteers to serve as tab room officials at the 2018 National Tournament. If you volunteer, you will receive a $100 honorarium or 10 rounds of judging credit. Note: judge rounds may not be used to cover Policy, Public Forum, or World Schools Debate judging commitments.

If you are able to help out, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing info@speechanddebate.org. If you have already filled out our form, you do not need to submit another one.
