Spotlight on Research!
For our first anniversary edition, the PMI Grants team visited with Luc Van Kaer, Ph.D.  Recent American Heart Association and R01 award recipient, Dr. Van Kaer is Elizabeth and John Shapiro Professor of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology.  Here he discusses the focus of his current work on the 'Role of autophagy-related protien Vps34 antigen presentation and self-tolerance.'

Dr. Andries Zijlstra, Associate Professor of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, Co-Chaired a highly successful conference on Extracellular Vesicles in Cancer.  Held at Vanderbilt University, the event entailed 18 months of planning and amassed nearly double the expected attendance.  Here, Dr. Zijlstra shares highlights from the conference.

Submission Deadline Reminder

Due to Construction on the 5th floor, please plan to submit proposals transmitted via coeus (NIH/DoD) no later than the morning of the deadline due date.  We may experience intermittment power outages because of nearby construction and want to ensure no interference occurs with submissions during this time.

2020 Blavatnik National Awards for Young Scientist-Life Sciences Category.  Joint competition for VU and VUMC investigators.  $250,000 in unrestricted funds.  Submission items for nomination due 09/18 to LSO@vanderbilt.edu.  
Searle Scholars Program $300,000 for a three-year period.  Nominations open 06/01.  Full application due 09/27. 
R35 NCI Outstanding Investigator Award $600,000/yr directs for 7 years.  Candidates must be nominated by their applicant organization.  Internal pre-applications due 09/30.  Details for internal nomination available here
Crazy 8 Initiative Award Program  $1-5 million over four years. LOI due 10/01.  Full application by invitation due 01/20. View proposal guidelines here
Cancer Research Institute Irvington Postdoctoral Fellowship Program Stipend and allowance.  Applications due 10/01.  
2020 Michelson Prize $150,000 prize, open to early-career investigators under 35.  Pre-applications accepted from 09/09-10/31.
Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Awards for Medical Scientists (CAMS)  $700,000 in support over five years for physician scientists (M.D., D.O., D.V.M., D.D.S.).  Full application due 10/01.
2020 Established Investigator Award $80,000 including 10% indirects/year for five years. LOI due 10/10 and full application by invitation, 01/15. 
2020 AHA Collaborative Sciences Award $250,000 directs/year for three years including 10% institutional indirect costs.  LOI due 10/8, and full application by invitation only, 01/30.
2020 AHA Career Development Award  $77,000/year, for three years, including 10% indirects. Application due 10/15.
American Cancer Society Research Scholar Grant  $165,000/year direct costs for up to four years, plus 20% allowable indirect costs.  Full application due 10/15.
NIH R35 Genomic Innovator Award (R35 Clinical Trial optional)    $300,000 directs/year for five years.  Application due 10/30. 
Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation Litwin IBD Pioneers Award one-to-two years.  Awards are generally not funded above $130,000 including 10% indirect costs, for clinical trials; and above $110,000, including indirect costs, for lab-based studies.  LOI 11/05.  Full application by invitation, 01/28.  
Damon Runyon Physician-Scientist Training Award $100,000-$130,000/yr direct cost for four years.  Due 12/02.
