(SACRAMENTO, CA) – The collaboration between Vitalant (formerly BloodSource), Univision, and the California State Fair exemplifies how a partnership benefits an entire community.
The 19th Annual "Dia de Donar Sangre" blood drive is Friday, June 21, 2019 at Cal Expo in Buildings C & D, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Parking is free for Día de Donar Sangre participants through the Blue Gate, located off Challenge Way and Exposition Blvd. Everyone who donates blood will receive a ticket to the 2019 California State Fair, July 12-28.
Since 2001, nearly 18,000 participants have contributed to the continued success of one of the largest single-day blood drives in the nation. Hispanic donors have a higher incidence of Blood Type O, the most requested blood type from hospitals supporting patients in need.
"When our community rallies together for this annual blood drive, Univision 19 viewers transform the lives of patients and their families,” said Meredith Spencer, Vitalant Donor Recruitment Manager. “Through their commitment to saving lives donors provide a remarkable impact to our community blood supply.”
Since its inception, more than 14,252 life-saving pints pints of blood have been collected; 18,052 people have registered as blood donors; 13,559 people have signed up as first-time donors. The resulting pints of blood continue to provide life sustaining support to thousands of Californians.
