Welcome to the 2021 Golf Season!

Each spring as the cold weather becomes a distant memory and a warm breeze blows gently across our cheek, our thoughts return to getting back outside and recapturing the hope of longer drives, well struck irons and putts dropping from far away.  This year is different from last and it should be in more ways than one.  If last year taught us anything, it should be do not take life for granted.  Live it to the fullest and what better way than to get outside in the fresh air, blue skies, among the oaks, pines, and maples, on the fresh cut grass and play the game that we all love with our family and friends.

Volunteer Opportunities

If you have the time and would like to make an impact on junior golf and the future of the game, we have many opportunities and are always looking for volunteers.  If you have an interest in helping out, please contact PGA Golf Professional Drew Chapman at dchapman@massgolf.org.

Friendly Reminders

The first tee time on each day will begin on the time scheduled and not earlier to allow our Grounds Staff to get a jump start on what they need to do to set up play for the day.

Advanced tee times are suggested.  If you are unable to make your tee time, please contact the pro shop asap and prior to your start time so that others may schedule play during that time frame.  Members may book their tee times 10 days in advance, the General Public 7 days in advance.

Please take good care of the course by replacing divots, smoothing bunkers, re-pairing your ball marks (plus one other), and not causing unnecessary damage to the course such as hitting more than one ball unless in accordance with the rules of golf.

Lessons with Drew

It will be my pleasure to help you improve your game this season. Once the weather warms up and we are back to full staff, my schedule will allow me to give lessons on a regular basis.  Individual lessons are $45.00 for a half hour for adults ($80/hour) and $25.00 for a half hour for junior golfers under age 18.  You know that you have always wanted longer, straighter and more consistency in your ball flight.

Drew's Tip of the Month

While there are many causes for losing distance, lack of body or pivot rotation should be one of the first places you look.  Often our turn away from the ball gets shorter and the ball just does not seem to go as far, especially at the beginning of the golf season.  As we get older, unless we work at it, we tend to lose our flexibility.  But flexibility alone does not guarantee a good body coil.

By themselves, the shoulders only rotate 45 degrees.  To prove this, sit on the floor and do not allow your hips to move.  How far can you turn your shoulders now?  The average person will get about 45 degrees of shoulder rotation. So where does the other 45 degrees come from, which will allow us to make a full 90-degree shoulder rotation that all good players seem to have?  It comes from the hips.  By allowing you right hip to withdraw behind you, you will get 45 degrees of hip rotation.  Add the hip rotation to the 45 degrees of shoulder rotation and you have yourself a full 90 degree turn of the shoulders in your backswing.  Your Pivot is now ready to deliver your arm, hands, and club through the ball.

The image that you should keep in mind is to get your back to your target at the top of your backswing.
