TRUMP ADMINISTRATION PLANS TO PUBLISH NEW RULE RESTRICTING CERTAIN COLLEGE STUDENTS FROM EMERGENCY RELIEF GRANTS
The Trump administration is planning to unveil a new regulation that will restrict which college students may receive emergency grants to cover expenses like food and housing. The interim final rule excludes undocumented students and others who don't qualify for federal student aid from more than $6 billion emergency cash grant programs under the CARES Act.
The Education Department stated that it believes the new rule, "will help to ensure that the distribution of the CARES Act funds is managed by Institutes of Higher Education (IHE's) in accordance with this clarification." This afternoon the Education Department announced that the new interim rule, which was previously said to be released this week, will not be released until June 15 at the earliest.
