Community Organizer
If you’re up early in the morning, you might find Katie Highsmith jogging around campus. Highsmith recently moved from Lynchburg, Va., to join the Puget Sound staff as a residence director overseeing Oppenheimer, Smith, and Trimble halls. In her new role, she supervises a team of student resident community coordinators and works to support students’ personal development as responsible members of a community. Highsmith is especially excited to help second-year students get connected to Puget Sound. In her free time, Highsmith is a professional soccer referee, a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball fan, and a Formula One racing enthusiast. This fall, she is looking forward to welcoming students back to campus and visiting every coffee shop in town.

Be Prepared
Practice makes perfect or, at least, prepared. This Thursday, Sept. 16, from 10:45 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. we will hold our annual lockdown/shelter-in-place campuswide drill.

Secure your classroom, office, room, or workspace.
Secure windows, close blinds, and turn off lights.
Stay low to the floor and away from windows and doors as much as possible.
Silence cellphones, remain quiet, and wait for further instructions.

In the event of an actual campus emergency, students, faculty, and staff will receive Security Alerts via text message to their university email addresses and/or personal cellphones. To ensure that Security Alerts are properly delivered, campus members should update their contact information through myPugetSound. Parents can view active Security Alerts on the university website.
