With a career spent examining how economic and cultural forces shape gender relations and family life, first in Russia and more recently in the United States, Prof. of Sociology Jennifer Utrata brings clarity and compassion to the hidden dynamics inside the modern home. Her in-progress book manuscript, Keeping the Kids Afloat: Intensive Grandmothering and Family Inequality, shines a light on what happens when grandma becomes a regular caregiver for her grandkids, exposing a quiet shift in family life with far-reaching implications. We sat down with Dr. Utrata to talk about her research, her path to Puget Sound, and the power of seeing families through a sociological lens.

Prof. of Theatre Arts Sara Freeman was interviewed by Dramatist Türkiye about her approach to dramaturgy, her role as president of Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA), and the future of the industry.
"I define dramaturgy as a set of interrelated practices about understanding and mobilizing performance material that is necessary to all theatre making," Freeman says. "The role of dramaturgy within a theatre ecosystem is to always bring the work back to itself and to protect and maintain the focus of the artists and the connection between the art and the audience."

After a courageous battle with cancer, Coach Keim passed away surrounded by loved ones. Over the course of his 30-year career, he inspired countless student-athletes — and colleagues — to always show up with enthusiasm, be ready to compete, and invest in the growth of others.
