Dear Community Partner,
We are inviting you to participate in a groundbreaking two-year research study that can help shape the future of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) girls* in this country.
This study will help us answer these important questions so we can help teachers, schools, and community-based organizations create greater gender equity in the leadership development of all girls:
- What are the wide-ranging definitions and understandings of leadership within the AAPI communities?
- How do AAPI girls identify themselves within the tapestry of AAPI identities and the many diverse communities of AAPI youth?
- What are the external supports and barriers to leadership for AAPI girls?
|
The time to tell the story of our AAPI girls is long overdue.
With the model minority myth, AAPI are often unseen and unheard. While they’re the fastest growing ethnic group in the U.S., accounting for 7.7% of the nation’s total population, very little data exists on this disparate group that hails from more than 50 origin countries and speaks 100+ languages. And while there is some data on the general AAPI population, no research exists on AAPI girls.
How you can help:
- Support {survey outreach and distribution, language translation, marketing}
- Recruit {youth participatory action research (YPAR) council, study participants, participants for national community meetings}
- Test {data collection tools, research design and instrumentation}
-
Attend {regional and national community meetings, solution building}
- Participate {informational interviews, focus groups, advisory board}
- Connect {grassroots groups, girls, families/parents, networks}
- Share {findings, feedback}
