Students participating in Mean Green Fling.
   MEAN GREEN FLING SIGN-UP
Mean Green Fling is back! Campus department sign-ups are open until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, for the annual back-to-school kickoff event hosted by Student Activities. Only registered organizations are eligible to host a table. New student organizations can register for the waitlist, which opens Wednesday, Aug. 2, and closes at 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6. Registration for a reserved table is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Be aware that Mean Green Fling registration is not the same as Student Org registration — organizations must complete that registration process separately.
Mean Green Fling is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, so mark your calendar now. We hope to see you there!

   EAGLE ALERT
UNT’s Eagle Alert system sent a test message to students, faculty, staff and UNT System staff on Friday, July 14. Because the Eagle Alert system is intended to communicate vital, urgent information in potentially life-threatening situations, the university maintains strict criteria for initiating an alert to the community. If you are on or near campus and receive an Eagle Alert, it is crucial that you pay attention to the alert. Learn about Eagle Alert and check your contact information at my.unt.edu. We suggest saving the Eagle Alert contact number in your phone, so you'll know the source of the call (940-369-8097) or text message (89361).

   NORTH TEXAS NEWS
Before the North Texas Daily, the student newspaper was printed weekly and had a different name. The first issue was distributed Nov. 1, 1916. Beginning in 1949, the paper was distributed every Wednesday and Friday.
What was the original name of UNT’s student newspaper? Send an email with the correct answer, and 10 randomly selected students will each win a Mean Green prize pack. The answer will be announced in an upcoming issue.
