Mixed Amphetamine Salts (Adderall IR and ER®) Shortage Information
The American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) maintains a tool that helps track and report on medication shortages that may impact practices and patients. Recently, amphetamine mixed salts (immediate release and extended release) have been added to this list. The shortages may impact patients with ADHD who are taking generic forms of Adderall IR/ER®. If patients are having difficulty obtaining their medication, Partners For Kids maintains an ADHD prescribing resource that contains guidance on switching between stimulant medications. The prescribing resource also provides viable options that are covered by the Ohio Department of Medicaid’s Unified Preferred Drug List. The ASHP drug shortage tool provides timely updates on the status of the current shortage.
