First, to the parents and families of the Class of 2028, welcome to the Duke Family! Though many of you live across the country and worldwide, you are an essential part of this community, and we welcome you. To the returning parents and families, welcome to the 2024-2025 academic year.
The team of New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) believes that a supportive network of family and friends at home is valuable to the success of Duke students. As part of our commitment to fostering an inclusive and informed community among new Duke students and families, the Office of New Student and Family Programs will provide these monthly newsletters highlighting the many resources and opportunities available to your students. This resource will help you encourage and support them from wherever you are.
We will also use this newsletter to highlight special invitations to you as families, such as an invitation to Family Weekend 2024, which is soon approaching! This exciting weekend will be held October 18-20 and is an excellent opportunity for you to visit your student and learn more about the Duke experience. Check the Family Weekend website for details and the registration site. We hope to see you in Durham!
On behalf of the Duke community, thank you for the many ways you support your student and our university.
GO DUKE!

To the Duke Community,
I hope you are enjoying an invigorating and rewarding semester.
This will be a very special week on campus as we welcome back thousands of alumni and host a special series of events for the entire community as part of our Centennial Founders’ Day and Homecoming celebration.
On Thursday, former Duke Presidents Nan Keohane and Dick Brodhead will join alumna and Trustee Emerita Judy Woodruff and me for a wide-ranging discussion of Duke University’s past and our future.
Friday afternoon we will gather with descendants of George Wall and representatives of the Walltown community for the formal dedication of the George and George-Frank Wall Center for Student Life. This special program will celebrate the legacy of these two early employees and their family's ongoing impact at Duke and in Durham, as well as the generations of staff members who have advanced the university’s mission throughout our first 100 years.
Our celebration will continue on Friday evening in Wallace Wade Stadium and at a student watch party in Penn Pavilion for a Centennial program featuring 9th Wonder, Retta, and a magnificent student and alumni chorus, followed by a concert by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran.
And on Saturday we’ll return to Wallace Wade Stadium for our Homecoming football game vs. UNC, including on-field recognition of dozens of faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the university who represent excellence across our mission.
These are just a few of the many ways we will continue our yearlong celebration of the people and the moments that have shaped Duke’s first 100 years and the tremendous promise of our second century.
Many of this week’s events will be held both in-person and virtually; I hope you will plan to participate as your schedule allows.
Thank you for being part of this extraordinary community.
Cheers,
Vincent E. Price
President

Duke ID Cards are available for pick up in the BC Plaza! |
Class of 2027, the 2024 Election is right around the corner and the DukeCard Office is collaborating with Duke Votes to ensure that students who are eligible to vote in North Carolina have a valid form of photo identification to cast their ballot. The physical DukeCard and Duke Student Voter ID card are both approved by the State Board of Elections as an acceptable form of ID. Given the Class of 2027 did not receive a physical DukeCard, the DukeCard Office is providing it to students for free. Students do not have to request a card, and there will be multiple opportunities to pick up a card in the coming weeks. Students must present a government-issued ID when picking up their card.
|
Make sure you have a valid form of Voter ID to vote in this year's election! Forms of valid ID include a North Carolina driver's license, a U.S. passport or passport card, a North Carolina state ID, or your physical Duke ID.
