LAKE STREET WELCOMES SECRETARY JULIAN CASTRO
I had the great honor of introducing Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro at a recent event on Lake Street. As we consider housing policy and what development looks like on Lake Street and in the rest of the city, it's great to have Secretary Castro as a friend and ally. The Second Annual Trans* Equity Summit will take place in conjunction with Visibili “T”- a six-week photography exhibition at the Intermedia Arts gallery that offers an in-depth look at the lives of Minneapolis’ trans* community. The focus of this year's summit will be on the intersection of trans* identity and the criminal justice system. Police Chief Janee Harteau is copnfirmed as a guest. Join us for a day of learning and building broader community understanding of the trans* community and issues.

The theme of this year's free Central Neighborhood fair is "Healthy Equitable Community". At the fair we will be highlighting all the hard work that has been taking place in Central to make sure that all our people have access to healthy food, healthcare and quality jobs and housing. We will be using the on-site grill to share healthy food with our neighbors. So please bring something to share. We also will have yard games and music for all to enjoy!

CELEBRATE MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY ON LAKE STREET
The celebrations will include reenactments of the Grito de Dolores, the proclamation that initiated the struggle for Mexican Independence from Spain, live music and food, merchandise vendors, information about community groups and services, and a car and bike show on Sunday.

PORCHFEST 2015
Powderhorn PorchFest is a community event that occurs annually. Bands, porches, ping pong, chalk art, and dancing in the street. POLICE CONDUCT OVERSIGHT COMMISSION BODY CAM STUDY AVAILABLE
The Minneapolis Police Conduct Oversight Commission’s body camera implementation study is available. The report contains general recommendations for the use of police body cameras as well as specific policies concerning activation and deactivation of cameras, restrictions on use, notification of parties on camera, the viewing of body camera recordings by officers, accountability for misuse of body cameras, and future policy creation or modification. The report also contains the Commission’s modified version of the current MPD body camera Standard Operating Procedure.

Bao Phi is a multiple Minnesota Grand Slam poetry champ and National Poetry Slam finalist who has been on HBO's Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry and whose work was included in the Best American Poetry anthology of 2006.
His new poems deal with his history as a Vietnamese refugee born during war and raised in the Phillips neighborhood of South Minneapolis, through his newly formed lens of being a man of color raising a daughter.

MOVEMENT LAB
Movement lab, a program of the Peoples Movement Center, is a two hour embodied workshop where participants explore an issue, concern, idea, conflict, struggle, or insight related to their change work. Facilitators trained in somatics, popular education, and/or performance guide participants through individual and collective exercises. Takes place every 3rd Tuesday of the month, with rotating facilitators.
