Teaching guide for wrapping up the term |
From tutorials on the Canvas Gradebook to how to grant students extended access to your course, here are some helpful steps for wrapping up the term with ease.
Announcing our spring read: | Teaching to Transgress by bell hooks |
"After reading Teaching to Transgress I am once again struck by bell hooks's never-ending, unquiet intellectual energy, an energy that makes her radical and loving." -- Paulo Freire
The faculty book group will convene the first week of spring term, at 12 p.m. on Friday, April 7, and meet every two weeks thereafter. You can pick up your copy of the book at the OAI front desk as soon as March 15th!

While Canvas can be a powerful tool for assessment, it is not the place to record final grades for your students. The Office of the Registrar can help with any questions about recording final grades in Banner, and OAI can help you with assessment in Canvas.
| The end of a term can mean a lot of administrative tasks. If you have any questions about how to end a term successfully, start a live chat session with our Support Team.
| Your students don’t have to lose access to your course just because the term ends. Allow your students to access all their hard work even after classes have finished.
Follow these steps to make sure everything is in order before you submit your final grades to Banner.

How do you find renewal as an instructor? |
PSU instructors reflect on finding renewal towards the end of the winter term.
Have a question or topic you'd like to hear discussed by PSU faculty? Tell us about it.

"To reset after a long, cold, and dark winter term I give myself permission to breathe. To take the days more slowly, and to engage in activities that bring me joy (cooking, getting out in nature, hanging with my teenage son). And, importantly, I take intentional and conscious time to release past mistakes and invite space for new beginnings." - Heather Petzold, University Studies
"I find myself frequently repeating something one of my Jin Shin Jyutsu instructors shared: 'Sometimes the way we get through hard times is moment by moment and breath by breath.'" - Kim Brown, Applied Linguistics and International Studies
"When I am feeling burnt out, isolated, and alone as a queer, immigrant scholar in academe, I walk our campus. For example, I visit our Multicultural Centers. Going to La Casa Latina and the Queer Resource Center, for example, minimizes my feelings of isolation." - Óscar Fernández, University Studies
"Long hikes with my husband and our energetic dog, meeting our kids (now in their 20s!) for dinner, seeing friends, catching up on reading - and making things, like new pipe cleaner and found object brain cells! I also really like looking forward, and getting as ready as possible for what’s coming next." - Bill Griesar, Psychology
"I try to align my screen time with the natural light, which thankfully is increasing now. so that my brain and body can get good sleep and restore me to power me through this difficult time." - Lisa Weasel, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
"I find that mindfulness practice helps me reset and I enjoy the Ten Percent Happier app (even the free version has some great guided meditations). I appreciate reminders in books like The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor and When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chödrön. My kids are also a fantastic source of energy and new ideas when I make the time to be fully present with them." - PSU instructor
