New ‘Top Docs’ highlights innovative ways to promote wellness & resilience
The latest edition of the Medical Association of Georgia’s (MAG) ‘Top Docs’ show highlights innovative ways to avoid burnout and promote wellness and resilience within the health care workforce.
It features Despina “Debi” Dalton, M.D., M.B.A., RPh, CPE, FAAP, FACHE, the vice president of medical affairs and the hospital chief medical officer and physician advisor for Wellstar Douglas Hospital – and the chair of the Georgia Composite Medical Board – and Rebecca Gomez, PsyD, a clinical health psychologist and the lead for Wellstar’s resiliency program.
Drs. Dalton and Gomez discuss…
– Wellstar’s efforts to promote workforce resilience and well-being
– The toll that the pandemic has taken on Wellstar’s physicians/workforce
– How the pandemic has effected positive change at Wellstar
– Why it is important to measure workforce resiliency and well-being
– How Wellstar evaluates workforce resiliency and well-being
– How to sustain workforce resilience/well-being once the pandemic subsides
– Wellstar’s efforts to promote professional fulfillment
– How individuals can achieve personal resiliency and fulfillment
– How to reconcile the delta between perception and reality when it comes to being a doctor
The episode is part of MAG’s ‘G.R.I.T.’ campaign, which is being funded with a grant from Alliant Health Solutions. G.R.I.T. stands for Georgia’s Resilience Innovation Team. The campaign was created by MAG’s Health Care Workforce Resilience Task Force to support medical practices and health care systems in the state.
In addition to being a physician, Dr. Dalton is a board-certified pharmacist. It is also worth noting that Dr. Dalton is a graduate of the MAG Foundation’s Georgia Physicians Leadership Academy – and she serves on three key MAG task forces, including ones addressing physician resiliency, medical cannabis, and opioid misuse.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Dr. Gomez has focused on Wellstar’s workforce resilience efforts at the individual and group levels. She also works with Wellstar’s residency programs to “help new clinicians infuse wellness and resiliency skills into their professional and personal routines.”
In addition to the video recordings that are available on Facebook, ‘Top Docs’ is available as a podcast on AppleGoogleSpotifyStitcher, and iHeart Radio.
