Robin Mandel

This show is organized around the theme of temporality, and how different artists use time as a material in their work. Robin's works combine objects and video in unexpected ways, creating paradoxes that stretch our experience of time.  Ephemeral moments seem to last forever, and inanimate objects take on lives of their own.

Colleen Keough

Creation Myth, a new video/animation work by Colleen Keough will be screened as part of Manifest Dismantling.

Manifest Dismantling includes short experimental moving image works by artists living, working, or are from either the United States or Ireland. Though far apart in distance, the citizens of both countries share serious consequences from this “dismantling.” Presented over the course of two evenings, with the first night dedicated to Climate Collapse and second night relating to Borders, these works introduce creative means of engaging with our current states of crisis, introducing novel perspectives as we craft new methods of collective understanding and working together in a time of panic.

October 31 and November 1, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm

FREE ASSOCIATION: On March 5, 2019, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first truly new medication for major depression in decades. This group show celebrates this medical achievement. A handful of artists were asked to offer pieces for the exhibition. These works were then matched quickly with partner pieces, in the same manner as psychologists use the word association game. On display is the result. Featuring artists Tauba Auerbach, Breyer P-Orridge, Dietmar Busse, Matt Connors, Frank Haines, Elisabeth Kley, Lovid, Shona Macdonald, Lucas Samara

Draw the Line: Henri Matisse once said that drawing was “putting a line around an idea.” This exhibition is full of ideas — and the lines around them. While the artists in the show each approach drawing from their own directions, the common thread might be best described by participating artist Tim McDonald who says, “The initiation of a mark is the ground of imagination, a primary point of contact, of clarity,  that is before language, before thought — a direct experience of mind operating along a wild edge. Whether representation or abstraction, no matter the media used, be it charcoal, graphite, paint, or ink; paper or fire, or ice, or tape; a photograph, a walk, a lost or found thing - it all comes back to drawing. Drawing, offers me, as poet Gary Snyder has written, ‘an open space to move in with the whole body, the whole mind.’"
Artist in the exhibition include: Shona Macdonald, Shane Savage-Rumbaugh, Leslie Cohen, Sandra Allen, John Roman, Michele Lauriat, Cobi Moules, Stephen Cipullo, and Tim McDonald.

wherever i may be, the sky is mine
1st and 2nd year MFA graduate students in the Department of Art
Herter Art Gallery presents wherever i may be, the sky is mine, a group exhibition of current 1st and 2nd year graduate students who critically respond to this era of cacophony of voices and noises, where truths are crumbled by repudiation of facts. The exhibition features artworks that grapple with some of the most urgent issues of our time, yet through modest means. Facing our precarious future, the artists offer various modes of observing, caring, reconsidering, remembering, gathering, repairing, healing, and countering the myth of ‘greatness’ of America. The artists in this exhibition are: Taylor Benoit, Chenda Cope, Sally Curcio, Hannah Duggan, Avery Forbes, Cima Khademi, Nima Nikaklagh, Abbey Paccia, Jessica Scott, and Chaehee Yoon.

Shawn Farley & Lois Guarino
Shawn Farley's Constructions are comprised of foundry molds, wood, oil, latex and/or acrylic paint and have been both exhibited and collected extensively. To embark on her her work, she searches flea markets and seeks out junk dealers from all over the country who clean out the closed and abandoned machine foundries of their wood patterns or molds, unique pieces formed by talented craftsmen long ago that are on their way to becoming the trash of history.
Lois Guarino, artist, writer, and teacher is widely exhibited, and collected. She is the recipient of numerous awards and grants, including two fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts.  With a focus on the interconnectedness of all living things, she describes the drawings on view in this exhibition as a departure for her, coming from a place beyond consciousness.
