African American Read-In: Call for Submissions!
STRIDE is participating in the African American Read-In, a national event hosted by National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
From the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) website and toolkit:
"The National African American Read-In is a groundbreaking effort to encourage communities to read together, centering African American books and authors. It was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month. This initiative has reached more than 6 million participants around the world.
"During the month of February, schools, churches, libraries, bookstores, community and professional organizations, and interested citizens are urged to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month by hosting an African American Read-In.
We will be sharing the Read-In videos in the newsletter and on the BYM website!
If you're interested in participating please submit videos of yourself reading books by African American authors to junadonegan@gmail.com. Plan to read for 5-10 minutes! Here are some
suggestions should you need help picking a book to read. Please send videos either as an mp4 or as an unlisted youtube video link. Here is a link to an
example video by our own Rosie Eck reading Akata Warrior by Nnedi Okorafor.
Thank you for your submissions! Happy African-American History month everyone! <3
