Danyore- video still, Mahwish Chishty; 5 channel video installation, 2019-2020

Danyore
Mahwish Chishty
The complexity of Pak-China relations as a direct and indirect result of the CPEC (China- Pakistan Economic Corridor) project are captured in this five-channel video installation. Chishty sees this project as an extension of her previous projects that combine her interests in Pakistani traditional folk art/culture and contemporary politics: Wagah border series, Drone art series and Basant,
Let’s go fly a kite.
Initially trained as a miniature painter from the National College of Arts, Lahore, Pakistan, Mahwish Chishty has aggressively combined new media and conceptual work with her traditional practice.

Labyrinth of Versailles: Out of Storage into VR
Copper Frances Giloth
In June 2019, Copper Giloth spent a week in one of the storage facilities at the Château de Versailles taking 25,000 photographs of remnants from the Labyrinth, which was built in the gardens of the château in 1665 and removed in 1775. Working with an assistant and her collaborators John F. Dubach and Jonathan Tanant, Giloth inspected and photographed the precious few remnants of the 39 fountains that once existed in the Labyrinth.
Copper Frances Giloth is currently a Professor of Art at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, having joined the faculty in 1985. She currently teaches courses in Digital Media, Information Design, Mobile Apps and Drawing.

Installation view of Boundary Objects, Jeff Kasper

Boundary Objects
Jeff Kasper
In Boundary Objects, the audience activates recent work by Jeff Kasper, including text, time-based media, games, and soft objects. The entire installation serves as a temporary social space for navigating interpersonal boundaries. Visitors are encouraged to use the exhibition to slow-down, rest, and practice playful ‘choreographies of support that can be applied to real-world conflicts, conversations, and collective situations.
Jeff Kasper is an artist, writer, organizer, and integrated designer who employs a trauma-informed and healing-centered approach to social practice.
Not into corporate care culture? Practice self-affirmation with some quiet time in the installation. Bring a partner, an ally, or chill out solo. The artist will be present to share some herbal tea, handmade body care, and community wellness resources to soften the winter blues.

Procheta Mukherjee Olson, Nowhere Else But Here, Oil on Panel, 6 x 12 inches, 2019.

This exhibition is something of a departure from UMCA’s series “Dialogue with a Collection”. Over the years, artists have been invited to integrate their own works with pieces they select from the museum's works-on-paper collection, which includes over 3000 contemporary prints, drawings, and photographs. This year Procheta Mukherjee Olson has opted to select one single artwork from UMCA’s collection by Yun-fei Ji, which she finds pivotal and meaningful to her own art practice.
In this Dialogue with a Collection, Procheta Mukherjee Olson explores the multiple ways in which her work parallels the formal and conceptual concerns of Yun Fei Ji’s “Three Gorges Dam Migration” (2002). A magnificent 32-feet-long hand scroll made with over 500-hand-carved woodblocks, this print from the University Museum’s permanent collection maps the massive social and psychological disruptions caused by the construction of the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtse River in China.
Read more here about Olson's work.
Friday, February 7 - Sunday, April 26
Opening Reception for the Artist: Thursday, February 6, 5:00 - 8:00 pm
Artist's Talk: Wednesday, February 26, 5:30 pm
