Ray Scott Delivers Honky-Tonk Hilarity With 10th Studio Album Wrong Songs: Musings From The Shallow End, Friday, March 31

Known for “the kind of country that reaches inside
your heart and gives it a two fisted squeeze”
(American Songwriter),

the veteran artist’s latest project aims for the funny bone

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 27, 2023) — The greatest literary minds in history have waxed philosophical on the beauty and challenges of romantic love. It “comforteth like sunshine after rain,” wrote the great William Shakespeare. “Love is in all things a most wonderful teacher,” stated Charles Dickens, while Oscar Wilde opined, “Those who are faithful know only the trivial side of love: it is the faithless who know love's tragedies.” Now, Ray Scott — with his “fathoms-deep singing voice and wicked songwriting wit” (Rolling Stone) — adds his sagacity to the bards of old with lyrics like “Don’t let another penis come between us” and “There’s stories ‘bout love that seem sent from above, then there’s sh*t shows like me and you.”

These pearls of wisdom come courtesy of Scott’s 10th studio album Wrong Songs: Musings From The Shallow End — a collection of irreverent, high-energy honky-tonk tunes set to aurally penetrate the masses on Friday, March 31.

Scott goes hard on the themes of modern dating and relationships on the eight-track record, tackling the dangers of catfishing (“I can’t believe how good you look… … in pictures”), a love grown stale (“It’s gettin’ too clear from living with you, dear, that we’d rather hate life somewhere else”), aging gracefully (“Everybody ends up ugly — ain’t nobody exempt”), and unconsciously uncoupling (“So I'll say farewell and don’t go to hell, ‘cause I don’t wanna see you again”).

While hilariously “shallow,” the album sits atop a deep foundation of hard-earned country music cred. Scott, an independent artist, co-wrote Clay Walker's 2003 hit "A Few Questions" and Randy Travis' "Pray for the Fish” before releasing his 2005 debut album, My Kind of Music. His 2021 album Cover The Earth — hailed as “painstakingly crafted, mining lyrics and stories that match his top-shelf vocals” by Billboard — plumbed the depths of personal pain and family history.

“I wrote Wrong Songs after spending three years at home during COVID," Scott says. "When I was finally able to tour again the one consistent theme with each audience was people wanted to laugh and have a good time — they wanted a break from the grief. I tested the songs out on a year's worth of audiences in the U.S. and in Europe and those audiences helped A&R this process. Give it a listen and remember it's rooted in levity. While we're serious about our music and delivery, this record is satire for the folks who asked for a bit of snark in their country."

“At the end of the day, we’re just havin’ a good time so if anybody else wants to get on the 52-year-old adolescent train with me, we got plenty of room. Here’s to you twisted SOBs!” he adds.
