It's Because of You...

Happy New Year!  We'd like to start the new year right, by thanking you for your support in 2019–a year that brought many changes and exciting initiatives to The Arc Montgomery County.  We are charging into 2020 with enthusiasm and a renewed commitment to fulfilling our mission!

Your support last year helped Jamie find a job he loves. His skills and interests were matched with the needs of a local dog daycare, creating a winning situation for both Jamie and his new employer. Because of you, Jamie is thriving at work.

Your support linked Alex to his friends at KFICCC. They don't see him as having special needs–they just see their friend and value him for what he adds to their little group. Because of you, Alex knows the joy of belonging.

Your support also linked Katherine to her community. Instead of sitting at home or relying on other people for rides, she now uses an app to navigate public transportation. Because of you, Katherine can choose where to go next.
With your help, we can continue to provide services that link people like Jamie, Alex and Katherine to their communities by providing child care scholarships to working families, access to new technology for increased independence, and customized job supports to get more people working.
  • $110 a month will provide job skills training so another person like Jamie can work.
  • $50 a month will provide a hot, nutritious lunch for one child like Alex at KFICCC.
  • $25 a month will provide a tablet so another person like Katherine can travel independently.
The costs of providing services that link people like Jamie, Alex and Katherine to their communities grows each year. We need your continued support to do this vital work! Please make your recurring monthly or one-time donation today.

Elected For Inclusion

There will be a non-partisan presidential forum on disability issues in Austin, Texas on January 13, 2020!  "Elected for Inclusion" will place the pressing questions the disability community faces on center stage and give major party Presidential candidates an opportunity to discuss policy decisions that affect approximately 23% of the American electorate. The forum is organized through the American Association of People with Disabilities' REV UP campaign and is sponsored by The Arc of The United States. The Arc Maryland is sponsoring a watch party in Columbia, MD; click here to learn more.

Support Your Sibling

Start 2020 by supporting your sibling's independence. Do you want to help your sibling make their own health care decisions? At The Arc of the United States, the Center for Future Planning has a free self-advocacy resource to help facilitate health care decisions and supported decision-making if necessary. Purple Line Construction Impacts Bus Routes

The Purple Line and Capital Crescent Trail are on their way, but construction of the 16-mile east-west light rail line that will connect the Bethesda and New Carrollton metro stations will necessitate temporary bus route modifications in the Silver Spring area starting in December. Click here to access updates on the construction project and how it impacts you.

In The Bleak Midwinter
