UPCOMING LITERARY EVENTS
Once a year, our gifted Middle School writers call the community together to hear their poetry, prose, fiction, and opinions at an annual literary gathering, “Out Of Our Minds,” or "OOOM". This event highlights the talent and achievements of our students as they present work completed either for an assignment or for personal enjoyment. Parents and classmates are left astonished, delighted, awed, and provoked into deeper reflection, always with a deeper appreciation (and healthy envy) of our high achieving Middle School students.

You are most cordially invited to this special event on Thursday, April 13, at 5:00 pm, in the Santa Fe Prep Library. Light refreshments will be served.
Plan to join us in the lovely Prep Library on Thursday, April 20 at 5:00 pm to hear and see some of the finest creative endeavors of our Upper School students. "Elastic Babble" will feature poetry, short vignettes, song lyrics, and even some live music to tickle your ears and your fancy. As per tradition, the new edition of the student literary magazine The Skirmisher will be made available, hot off the presses! Treat yourself to an evening of whimsy, reflection, and humor, and honor the creative talents of our talented young writers and artists! You won't regret it.
MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

Back from Spring break and full of energy, our Middle School students participated in a two-part, two-hour introductory workshop from Impact Personal Safety. Led by Impact Executive Director and Instructor Alena Schaim, students were reintroduced to the idea of "stranger danger" and were asked to rethink the concept. Classes built on the idea that a majority of assaults come from people we know or who are more similar to us in lifestyle than we imagine. Students then proceeded to break down stereotypes that actually make people more vulnerable, and learned basic physical and verbal stances that help create clear and positive boundaries. We thank the PE department for sharing valuable class time for this important workshop.

As a continuation of this education initiative, we are teaming with Impact to offer Santa Fe Prep families a more in-depth, affordable, personal safety workshop on Saturday, April 29 from 12:00 - 4:00 pm in the Prep Founders' Room. This workshop is suitable for men, women and teens ages 13 and older. The cost is $75 per person. Need-based scholarships and payment plans are available. It’s a great opportunity for a parent and child day out together!

Middle School families are invited to join in an adventure in America's favorite pastime at an Isotopes game in ABQ on Friday, May 26. This is an informal event, where families will provide their own transportation, with the intention of meeting the greater Griffin group at the game. Interested families should please contact Drew Nucci at dnucci@sfprep.org by Thursday, April 13. Game time is 7:00 pm and tickets are $12.50. Thank you, Mr. Nucci, for coordinating this event, and parents, we hope you you can join in the fun!

ALUMNI
HIGHLIGHT

Keenan Amer '15 has been an all-conference defender in soccer his first two years at Colorado College. Keenan was one of six Tigers who earned a spot on the all-conference team as well as the Academic Honor Roll, and was the only freshman last year to start all 20 games. His coach, a former Major League Soccer (MLS) player, recommended that Keenan try out for a spot on the Premier Development League team in Boulder. Seventy percent of MLS players go through this league on their way up. Keenan tried out along with players from England, South America, Africa and D1 colleges...and made the team!
GRIFFIN
SHOUT OUT & THANKS

Congratulations Ben Johnson '21 for making the top-10 in state, and first place in Northern NM at the National Geography Bee
Parents Jill Gerber, Julie Murray, and scores of volunteers, have made magic with rummageSanta Fe Prep’s annual rummage sale was an exceptional success, grossing over $25,000!  Held this past Saturday, the sale was packed from a 7:00 am start to a 1:00 pm finish with people finding incredible buys on treasures donated by our community.

This truly is a Santa Fe city-wide event—people come from all neighborhoods and make it an annual festivity. Along with Dancing With The Santa Fe Stars, the rummage sale is one of the Parents’ Association’s most important fundraisers for Breakthrough Santa Fe and Tuition Assistance. It takes remarkable time and dedication to make the rummage sale fill such a critical need; the work starts the fall before the sale and continues for months until the event is over in April. We owe a great deal to Jill and Julie, and to all in our community who stepped forward with their generosity and their time.
Thank you!
