To streamline current and future parking operations and reduce our carbon footprint, Transportation Services has developed the functionality for employees of the university to use their BeaconCard as their monthly and semester parking pass.
Located at the entrance and exit of our parking lots are black, rectangular sensors, which are programmed to read activated BeaconCards. Upon entering the lot, simply tap your BeaconCard in front of the sensor, and if you have signed up for parking, access will be given, and the gate will allow entry. All old parking passes have been deactivated and cannot be reactivated for use.
Note: In order to utilize a parking pass purchased through Transportation Services, employees must have a BeaconCard. Employees who do not have a BeaconCard, have lost it, have forgotten it, or have not yet received it must pay the hourly or daily rate to park on campus. We will not offer refunds for parking under any circumstances if a BeaconCard is not present to both enter and exit the lot.
Please keep in mind, we cannot manually lift the gates to allow people to exit any of our garages or lots. Therefore, you must tap your BeaconCard to enter the lot, which will program your card to be “in,” and then tap your BeaconCard to exit the lot, which will program your card to be “out.” A vehicle that is registered as “in” will not be able to enter the lot, and a vehicle that is registered as “out” will not be able to exit the lot. When such a scenario occurs, the pass reader will respond with an error warning indicated as “Hard Anti-Passback.” If you receive this error message, you must pay the daily rate to exit the lot.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, production and delivery of BeaconCards have been delayed. There will be a four week delay for card production.
In order to replace your BeaconCard, please visit here: Request a replacement BeaconCard. If you don’t currently have a BeaconCard, request your first BeaconCard as a new community member (note you must log in to access).
Please feel free to email Transportation Services at parking.trans@umb.edu if you have any questions or need any further information about parking on campus.
