It has been a busy couple of weeks for the CFN. Staff traveled to Portland, Oregon for the Land Trust Alliance's Annual Rally early this month and then to New York for Climate Week. In Portland, we participated in some great workshops as well as met with public and nonprofit sector leaders in the Department of Defense's Sentinel Landscape Initiative and the US Forest Service's Cooperative Forestry Program. The CFN is working with both initiatives to explore effective and innovative financing strategies that can help scale conservation efforts and leverage the considerable public funding that is being invested in both programs.
The urgency of this work was underlined at last week in New York City where some 75,000 protesters filled the streets to demand action to combat climate change. Coming on the heels of a summer of fire, floods and heat waves, Climate Week included numerous corporate commitments and the announcement of a new carbon offset program focused on renewable in the development world. But there was also significant focus, at numerous events held across the city, on nature-based solutions to combat the crisis. We look forward to exploring many of these efforts at our upcoming events and here on our web page.
And speaking of our web page, if you haven't already, please fill out our 4-minute survey and let us know what you want to know about, from public funding to carbon markets and water funds to green banks and state revolving funds, and everything else in between.
Many thanks, and enjoy the rest of your summer.
