Message from Fr. JohnAs we enter a season of Thanksgiving and our semester rapidly winding down, I want to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for all you have contributed to our UP community. I am profoundly grateful for each and every one of you.
Our students have enlivened our campus community, celebrated their faith together, grown deeper in their learning and been of service to one another and our Portland community and beyond. I look forward to finishing the year well and to embrace new opportunities of the year ahead.
In the meantime, celebrate one another and your work together. Soon the opportunity for some well-deserved time to relax and reflect will be with us. My warmest wishes for health and happiness to you and your loved ones for the upcoming holiday season.
With gratitude,

Message from TammyEchoing Fr. John’s words of gratitude, thank you for your hard work and dedication in serving, supporting and educating our students in their co-curricular experiences.
Collaboration within our Division and across campus is key to our work. Students are leading the way as we’ve seen more “collabs” than ever between Clubs, Residence Halls, and Departments. A notable example of this collaboration are the efforts of the Commuter Student Support Working Group comprised of Student Affairs, SARC, Development, the Library, and Facilities. Another example is the VOTE UP initiative led by ASUP, Student Affairs, and the Political Science Department.
Let’s keep looking for new opportunities to connect and collaborate to grow and expand our offering as we support one another and tap into those moments of joy!

As part of her study, Jenna will serve as an intern with the Office of Student Affairs. Her work will focus on the planning and implementation of the new Two-Year Residency Requirement and Experience, starting with the Class of 2027. Contact Jenna with any questions on how this new requirement may impact your department.

Campus Ministry
We collaborated with Latinx Student Union, to celebrate Dia de los Muertos with an ofrenda in our Chapel and a Mariachi Mass on November 2nd, the Feast of All Souls. We look forward to another collaboration on December 5th in anticipation of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We will again have a Mariachi band leading us in a procession (at 7 p.m.) on the Academic Quad and then a reenactment of the appearance of Our Lady to St. Juan Diego in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher.
For cultural celebrations (overlapping with religious feast days), Campus Ministry is available to support other student groups. Contact Fr. Peter.
On the weekend of November 11-13, we had our first Spes Unica retreat at Canyonview in Silverton. Seven student leaders, Campus Ministry staff and thirteen students enjoyed time together, away from the busyness of campus, for prayer, fun, and reflection on living the paradoxes of the Christian life. Our next Spes Unica retreat is scheduled on March 17-19, 2023. Contact Br. Jony.

Moreau Center for Service and Justice
The Moreau Center is in a time of transition, with the departure of director, Laurie Laird, in early November. We're grateful for the ways that Laurie infused our work and the campus with her deep commitment to our core values of reflection, social justice, solidarity, and community.
The Rural Immersion was our first social justice immersion of the year! Over Fall Break, 10 students and staff learned about immigration and agriculture in Central Washington from community leaders including farmers, community health workers, immigration attorneys, and more. Read about the student’s reflections on the immersion blog.
Our Service & Justice Coordinators partnered with Because People Matter and Bon Appetit to raise meal points to provide Extravagant Thanksgiving Meal Baskets to North Portland families in need. Pilots raised over 7,500 meal points in 2 weeks, which will help feed 116 families this Thanksgiving!
The annual Silent Auction Fundraiser (December 5-7) will benefit MCSJ's Immersions. We rely on donations for our silent auction so if you have items you could donate, please contact Tyler.

Residence Life
You can find a dynamic and robust campus life in each of UP's residence halls this semester! Follow some of the halls on Instagram to catch an inside glimpse into life on campus. You'll find photos of the West Quad Welcome Back BBQ, Haggerty & Tyson Oktoberfest, Christie Car Wash, Shipstad Haunted House, Fields Cupcake Decorating, Kenna Fall Break Pumpkin Patch Trip, Villa Maria Sunday Night at the Races, Mehling Twilight Week, Corrado Campout, Lund Family Mailbox Mania, Schoenfeldt Padracers, and various Hall Masses and After Mass Socials.

Student Health Center
We partnered with the State to provide vaccine clinics on campus and administered 511 COVID boosters and 111 flu vaccines to staff, faculty, students, and the local community. The UP vaccine clinic broke records for the most COVID vaccines given in an hour and the most vaccines given in a 6-hour clinic by the State!
The Health Center is scheduling appointments for COVID bivalent boosters and flu vaccines (while supplies last). We continue to see students with symptoms of COVID for evaluation and testing. Testing at the health center is free to students. If you know of a student who is feeling unwell, please advise to call x7134 to schedule an appointment.
As we see our students continuing to face mental health challenges, our healthcare providers at the health center provide medication evaluation and management for psychiatric conditions including depression and anxiety. Students can call x7134 to schedule an appointment.

Wellness Center
