Scholarly Innovation Summit
The Scholarly Innovation Summit is just around the corner! This two-day event will provide an opportunity for development as well as be a platform for networking, knowledge-sharing, and idea-generation, paving the way for a brighter future in scholarship, research, and development.
Taking place on September 26 and 27 in the Lowman Student Center, our carefully curated program includes panel sessions, workshops, a research fair, pitch competition and more!

Your New Funding Search Engine
Sam Houston State University has subscribed to GrantForward's Funding Search service (replacing PIVOT), which is open to all members of our institution.
GrantForward helps you find grant opportunities that suit your research needs and also allows the creation of researcher profiles, so you can set up automated grant alerts and save your favorite searches.
Go to grantforward.shsu.edu and sign in using your SHSU email address to access your account. You will see an option to use the single sign-on function.
Our team will be hosting two training workshop sessions on Wednesday, September 13 (9-10 am) and Thursday, September 14 (3-4 pm). No registration is required. Simply show up and we’ll navigate you through the platform, demonstrate some features, and provide opportunity for Q&A. In the meantime, if you have any questions, or would like to learn more, please reach out to our team.

National Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) Week
Each year, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) calls on Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) to join in observance of National HSIs Week. This week recognizes the 572 HSIs throughout the nation for their work and critical role in educating and empowering Hispanic youth. This year, HSIs Week will take place September 11-17, 2023, coinciding with Hispanic Heritage Month.

Grant Slam
We appreciate SHSU faculty, staff, and students for their proactive approach in the search for new knowledge and for consistently demonstrating their concern about the world in which we live; applying their findings and skills to solving many of the problems facing contemporary society.
In all areas, and levels of experience, SHSU is dedicated to supporting our staff and faculty in taking that step towards innovation and change.

- Dr. Danielle Rudes (Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology) submitted a $2.9 million proposal to the Transforming Prison Cultures, Climates, and Spaces program at the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA).
- Dr. Yaping Xu (Department of Geography & Geology) submitted a $299k proposal to the Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) program at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
- Dr. Lisa Connor (Newton Gresham Library) submitted a $44k proposal to the All of Us program at the National Library of Medicine (NLM).

Internal Grants Program NOW OPEN!
Our internal grants program is now open for submissions. This program is intended to support creative activities and/or research for tenured/tenure track faculty across all academic disciplines. There are four different programs you can apply for: Individual Scholarship, New Faculty, Interdisciplinary Collaboration, and Pilot Studies for Future Funding.
Additionally, EURECA offers two scholarships: EURECA: Faculty and Student Team Award (FAST) and EURECA: Student Travel Awards for Professional Presentation (STAPP).

CCE Mini-Grants - DEADLINE EXTENDED
The Center for Community Engagement (CCE) is offering mini-grants (up to $500 per person) to current Academic Community Engagement (ACE) faculty for their ACE activity materials. Mini-grant applications will be accepted through October 1.
Priority will be given to new applicants and to those asking for items that can be reused over subsequent semesters. Mini-grant recipients will be notified within two weeks of submission. If selected, you are asked to provide a brief overview of how the mini-grant was used and the outcome of the ACE project at the conclusion of the semester.

Yumlish Internships
Yumlish is a company that empowers people with chronic conditions, like diabetes and heart disease, to take charge of their health. Their mission is to scale nutrition literacy and physical activity in a way that is accessible and engaging.
Yumlish is currently hosting two internship opportunities in a Social Media Marketing role and a Podcast Producer role. Both internship opportunities are remote and require 10-15 hours a week.

NSF Plans for Safe & Inclusive Work Environment When Conducting Off-Campus Research
New or renewal proposals to the National Science Foundation (NSF) submitted on January 30, 2023, or later that are funded will require that PIs take an additional step to safeguard participants when engaging in off-campus research activities. Our team has developed guidance and a template that can be found on our resource page.
