U.S. Ambassador Tours Tallahassee

OEV and the U.S. Department of Commerce welcomed Kazakhstan's Ambassador, Yerzhan Ashikbay to Tallahassee on Wednesday, April 5th. 

Kazakhstan is also emerging as a major transport and logistics hub in the region, linking the large and fast-growing markets of China and South Asia to those of Russia and Western Europe by road, rail and ports on the Caspian Sea. Kazakhstan presents a trade gateway to a market of about 100 million consumers in Caspian Sea countries, 76 million in Central Asia and 350 million in Western China. In addition, Kazakhstan boasts significant agricultural potential for grain and livestock production and U.S. companies are well positioned to help Kazakhstan diversify across this segment of the economy. With a growing middle class, Kazakhstan provides trade and investment prospects for U.S. firms seeking new opportunities in this growing, emerging market.

Since gaining independence in 1991, Kazakhstan has steadily worked to improve its business and investment climate. The Government of Kazakhstan realizes the need to implement transformative economic reforms to boost productivity and growth. Implementation of reforms has been uneven, however, and challenges remain in addressing problems related to the country’s competitiveness and economic diversification, its over-reliance on the extractive sector, corruption, inefficient bureaucracy, criminal liability for unintended tax infractions, and arbitrary law enforcement, especially at the regional and municipal levels.

During his visit, the ambassador received a tour of the National MagLab, Innovation Park, and Danfoss!

The Ambassador also met with Florida representatives in the agriculture and aerospace industries, the Florida Chamber of Commerce President Mark Wilson, Mayor Dailey, and Chairman Maddox.
